I recently did a lift of my 97 L with Outback struts and got my new tires and all but I have a few questions. I have two primary concerns, the first is about a clunking sound that I hear whenever I go over a bump, it sounds like it is coming from the struts, but I am not quite sure. The other concern is about what I need to do for the final piece of my lift. I have the struts and everything in, and in order to get everything setup, and get my stuff back to my house, I used washers as spacers to clear the bump in the center of the strut. I am almost positive that is not a long term solution. In fact, I have babied the car since then, not even driving it. What I need to know is how to get the rear struts seated as they should be. Do I need to get stock top hats and swap those onto there to get the center bump to fit in the standard hole? I thought I did enough research but I obviously skipped that bit. No harm no foul I suppose.
TL;DR - How to get struts seated after the outback lift on a 93-01, and what could cause a clunk, could they be related?
