I see some of you are running setups like this and wondered what you had to do to mount them there? Did you have to do some cutting out of the black filler/insert that the front plate mounts to?
(I tried searching but didn't get any results since I couldn't use terms fewer than 4 characters)

I have an 02 WRX and I got Hella 500 amber fogs and the kartboy brackets to mount them in the OEM fog location. I also have a set of Hella 500 driving pattern lights "custom" mounted to the grill.

Were you looking to do fogs like this;

Or like this;

The second option is the cheapest and easiest if you're not afraid to hack up your bumper a little. If you look over on RS25.com you'll find a pretty good write up on how to do it. The first is an RS bumper swap and the third is the stock option fogs which are kind of pricey new, and can be a pain to locate in decent shape used.

Yes, the 2nd option is what I was trying to describe. I saw it on blix666's signature and a few others here and there. I like the RS bumper but have never been able to get a good line on the beam & cover (tried a few times on ebay & nasioc) so I've been looking for alternatives.
Thank you very much.

No, I was trying to search here on this site but it won't accept any terms that are fewer than 4 characters.

Here's the link to the best write up that I've seen on how to do this.

Not a problem. I just want to see some pics of the car. A before and after would be really nice. Good luck to you.

My sincerest apologies for overlooking your excellent write up. Please forgive my dependence on those "other" sites. I originally was on them but got tired of the pointless drivel, arguments over which "insert random body part" looks better and the overall aversion to the type of driving that I enjoy. So now that I have migrated over here most of my knowledge bank is still over you know where.

what i'm wandering now is if i can put some stock 02 fogs in my 99 without ripping up the bumper too much.

It would be easier and probably cheaper to just use a set of hella 500's. The stock 02 fogs have a 3 bolt mounting braket, while the hella's use a single bolt. Not to mention that the hella's give much better light output.

i looked into putting '02 fogs in my car too, after going to my local subie dealer and checkin' out the setup, i came to the realization that it would be waaayyy more of a PITA to mount them than the Hellas.

i mean more of putting 02 fogs in the outside part of the bumper, not where the hellas would go but where the standard fogs are on a 02.

You've a '99 L right? If so the only way to mount stock fogs like that would be to do a bumper swap. The L bumper beam is not designed to accomadate that size/type of light in that area. Even if you were to modifiy both the bumper skin and beam to fit you'd still have to fab up a way to mount the lights to your now hacked beam.
The hella options is much cheaper and simpler, plus it works as is demonstrated by the number of people who have already done it.
Swapping an RS or V1-V6 bumper and beam will give you that clean factory look. This is a bolt on option with only drawback being higher cost.

appearantly i also cracked my front bumper on the bottom left corner (if setting in the car) and will probably need a new bumper.

Well if that's the case then now would be the perfect time to swap to the RS look. Personally I really like the look they give the car; my OBS will be getting one eventually. If you get one you need either an RS beam, a JDM beam(very light, not good in crash), or just cut you stock beam to fit. I haven't done one yet but I hear that cutting the stock one isn't as hard as it would seem.

yeh i like the look of my gf's RS and thinking i want my fogs to be spread that far apart. just have to find one that's not overly expensive.

ok, found a 02 bumper on ebay, but i don't know if it'll fit since the lights are made for bugeyes and i don't have those. i mean i could always just shave them off to be perfectly flat.

i'm pretty sure you can't use an '02 bumper skin on a GC

+1 While it is not impossible to use an 02 bumper on your GC it is much easier and cheaper to use an RS skin. The amont of work and custom fabrication needed to put an 02 bumper on would be hard to fathom.

i was going to use an RS bumper from a 02, i might not be understanding what you mean by that though.

Sorry I should have been more specific. When I said an RS bumper I was refering to a 99-01 RS otherwise known as a GC/GM body. The 02-03 were the bugeyes and are the GD body. They, the GC to GD bodies are not very compatible for exterior body panels. Any JDM WRX bumper from 93-01 will fit on your car as well. Because of the foglamp recesses in those skins you will need to either replace your bumper beam or modify your current one to fit. Hope that helps.
Happy New Year
