Part of my idea of getting my impreza (other than the fun factor!) was to save on some gas. I have a 1.8 AWD sedan 5 speed. Online it says it should get 26 hwy, 20 city and 22 combined from fueleconomy.gov. If the numbers are correct I will average about 6 mpg better in town the my 2003 Crown Victoria. However, on the free way I get 25 mpg out of my Crown Victoria. I drive about 50 miles a day, about 47 of that is on the free way and the hours I work the road has very little traffic so no stop and go. Do any of you keep track of your MPG?
i dont keep track, but i know i'm getting better then my jeep slightly. and that got about 9 mpgs

LOL, I had a 1996 Xj with a 6.5 inch lift and 35s with a stock drive train that got about that! It was great in the little bit of winter weather we got last year. My impreza is going to fill that role now.

my 2000 2.5 rs can get from 17 to 28mpg. it really depends on how heavy your foot is and when you shift

I get 30 highway with my wife's Legacy wagon auto. My WRX gets 22 highway, on E85 too. I had a friend with a 94 1.8 wagon and he'd get close to 35 highway. Your right foot will be the biggest factor.

I have a pretty heavy foot but not all the time. Hopefully I can get 35.. if so it will be worth leaving my CV for the family crusier and use the impreza for going to and from work and in nasty weather.

I use under 10 L/100 km, which works out to over 23 mpg, with a 2.2L engine, automatic, and AWD. My typical drive is about 30-45 minutes in each direction, and about half-and-half highway/city driving, but this includes going up and down a mountain road. Other than that, I do most of my driving in the city.
Before I started doing so much highway driving, I was getting about 13 L/100 km (which is closer to 19 mpg I think)... About the same as my old Volvo with a 2.5L I5. I'm sure I could get better mileage with FWD and a 1.8L engine, but the Subaru is too much fun as it is right now.

avarage 16mpg is wrx build 2.5 with 30r 1995 gsr with 114k i avarage 24 but can get 37
I have a 95 wagon and i get about 44 highway and 35 city. But i do wierd stuff like turn my engine off on any downhill thatll carry my momentum, neutral is the best gear to, I usually keep my car under 2000 rpm unless im doing 65 mph which i have no choice. I am in 5th gear as i hit 35 mph as well. Learn how to keep RPM low and keep the car moving as much as possible and your golden

Coasting in neutral while in traffic is dangerous. Shutting off your engine while coasting down a hill is not only dangerous it's illegal in many jurisdictions.
Subaru engines are neither happy nor healthy when driven under 2000 rpm on a regular basis.
I'm all for increasing MPG and saving money, just not in ways that are dangerous either to other motorists or to my vehicle.

I don't know how applicable this will be to your question, but in a 2.5RS with a lead foot and a 2.2L ECU I pull 20mpg consistently in all weather.
I was getting closer to 25/30mpg city/highway with the stock ECU, before I took my car for a swim...

I average 25.8 MPG in my 1997 Outback Sport and I track every single fuel up on Fuelly.com (in sig)
I just keep the RPMs under control when driving for work and set the cruise at 65 or 55, whatever the speed limit is and in the summer I can get around 28-30 regularly while the winter time is more like 25-27.

I have been doing this for the past 4 years, my car has 280,000 miles on it, and it has no intention of dying anytime soon. It's lived almost as rough of a life as any stage rally car Iv'e ever seen (seriously not a joke). It is only dangerous if you have no idea of what you are doing. I delivered pizza in a busy little city for a year and never once came into harms way. Now that is just me. Other people might not have the same luck, and to each his own path. I'm just stating my MPG and how I got there. Nobody has to take my advice, this is just my driving method and my car has no problem with it.

I was only getting about 23 mpg when I had a 1.8L... probably because it required a lead foot to even keep up with traffic.
Swapped to a 2.5L (with moderate exhaust and fuel mods) and started averaging around 25 mpg (city or highway)
...Then I put on taller tires, and (after accounting for the increased gearing) it gets 26 city 29 highway mpg. You probably don't need me to tell you how poor the factory gearing is for highway driving.
I have exceeded 30 city mpg by driving super conservatively, but that's not the norm.

I get in the upper 20's and can even get in the very low 30's. It's surprising that a 2.5 liter AWD drive sedan with 160+ hp can get better fuel economy than any 1st or 2nd gen Miata that I've had or driven.

Just recently did 30 MPG im my stage 2 WRX with General grabbers. I kept it to 68 mph on the highway and did 340 miles before the gas light came on! Its amazing the increase I got from doing 73 mph down to 68.

I have averaged 24.7 mpg in my '06 WRX since I bought it last April. Mixed city/highway driving. Best I ever got was 34.17, worst was 16.58
I got ~15mpg in my '91 Legacy SS on it's most recent tank...

I have gotten 30 mpg when my car was fwd + 1.8
for the longest time i was getting 20 mph (tops) after my RS 2.5 swap but i had a bad knock sensor + rear O2 for a while. finally fixed the knock sensor and i just got 26 mpg driving down to Ridgecrest. think it dipped down to 22 ish on the tank that i rally crossed on, and did the first half of the drive (lots of up hill) keeping 75 on steep uphills wasn't good on the tank.
i need to fill her back up, but i think the last tank i got around 30 . did 230 miles so far on what looks to be about 7-8 gallons of gas. :D
oh what size gas tank should an RS 2.5 have? mine seems to be a 12 gallon tank (from a 95 awd)

Im rocking a fairly stock 2k10 2.5i EAT. about a 2" lift with springs and 215-65-16 tires. i weigh about 3200L,B man seeking woman =-)
While my combined average is ~ 21-21 MPG over the course of a tank i drive hard and ~80mph on the highway.
using my on-board MPG computer (i know its not supper accurate with the 65 tires) i was getting 25MPG at 75-80MPH and when i dropped down to 65-70MOH i was getting about 30-32MPG

I used to get low 30's on the highway stock, and could get down to 14 or so womping on it. Since going stage 2 I've always averaged around 24 no matter how hard or nice I drive. (always just used #mi driven / gallons to fill up, so these are tank averages)
Lately it's been consistently on the low side of that and dropping (like it's block), but I just found a sticking slider bolt on the brakes along with a diagonally worn brake pad :kyle: - now lubed up and ungunked, so I'm hoping to shoot back to the 24+ range
Jake, you're back in a subie? The sexy white wagon's gone, right? thought I saw an audi now?

I use the Lucas oil injector cleaner in every tank and can tell by the mpg when I don't use it. I usually get between 20-23 but that was with some mixed up vacuum lines. Hoping since I fixed that problem and don't have anymore cel's it will go up.

5 months later and my overall average is still exactly what it was then. I wish I had posted how many fuel ups I had logged then. Currently up to 404 on the OBS and 9 on my RS.
My current "running MPG average" (10 most recent fuel ups) is 26.5 MPG. I'm hoping it will start going up slightly now that I have the 2.5 RS that will be taking over Rallycross duties.

I am still tinkering with my Impreza, the PS leak is giving me fit especially with such limited time to work on it. I will hopefully have it going soon. I have replaced the pump with a new one and O-rings so I must have one not seated good. I just picked up a 98 Legacy Outback for my wife. Hopefully she will get 25-30 out of it. She will have mostly freeway driving and her foot is much lighter than mine so she should get good MPG from it.
