Hey guys,

I've been seeing a lot of people asking for a template to build their own lift spacers so I thought I'd share my templates with you guys. These dimensions are the dimensions I had my spacers cut to and they fit perfect! I'm sure there is some room to fudge if you don't get it exact but this will get you started. These templates were for my 97' Legacy Outback, which I believe is the same as the Foresters, 95'-00' Legacies, and Imprezas/WRX's 02'-07'. Don't quote me on that as I'm not 100% on the other fitment but I'm sure someone can chime in whether that is correct or not. I also have the spacers for the rear 93'-01' Imprezas and will get those posted soon.

Edit: A member just noticed that I am missing a couple dimensions on the rear template. The distance from the stud hole center lines to the outside of the spacer is 0.6563", or 21/32". And the distance from the stud hole center lines to the center hole is 0.75", or 3/4". And on the front spacer template, the distance from the stud hole center lines to the center hole is 0.65625", or 21/32". Hope these help you guys get your scoobs lifted!!!

Here are some pics of my spacer install. You can see I used a lock nut to secure the bolt to the top hat and just counter-bored the stud hole in the spacer to accommodate the nuts. I also have a slight chamfer (~1/8") on the inside edge of the center hole to allow the spacer to fit totally flat.

I used some M8x1.25x50mm Grade 10.9 Fully-threaded bolts with matching lock-nuts and just reused the stock top nuts. These can be found on Ebay for quite cheap. You will not have to break down the front strut assembly (or at least I didn't have to) but you will need to take apart the rears to get the stock studs out. I used a socket behind the stud and a BFH to knock them out.

Hope this helps those of you who do not have the money to buy spacers from the venders but have some fab skill and drive to do it yourselves!

This is great thank you so much for the template. I'm about to get some HDPE to start this but was worried about cutting them right. Speaking of cutting what did you use to cut theses?

I had mine cut on the CNC at my work but I did make a previous set that I just cut with a jig saw and smoothed with a disc sander and then a drill bit to drill the holes. Might want a file on hand if your OCD but they won't be seen so they don't need to be perfect.

Bucky, these should fit your 06 OBS. You have the same suspension setup as the wrx's in that MY. You'll probably want to do some searching around just to verify they'll work but I'm pretty sure they are the same. People bolt wrx and forester suspension to outbacks with no other mods.

Hi, back again. So with the help of this message, I decided to undergo building my own lift kit, which is quite a large overstatement, considering that the work has mostly come down to getting friends to help me make the parts.

Anyhow, it's finally happened. Money has been exchanged, time has been committed, and I'm beyond excited.

I just want to do one final verification. I'm thinking that I read somewhere that the 97 outback legacy and outback impreza sport have the same front top hat configurations on the front, but I'm really not positive. Can anyone give me a quick confirm on this?

Yes. The fronts are the same, the rears are different.

I pulled my top hats and and made a program like a year ago cut mine on my old waterjet out of inch think aluminum and also made shaggy butt shims for the rear forget how thick, I'm putting out back on stuff soon with it ill post pics

Great to see this... I'm doing a Forester suspension swap myself, so I figured I'd slip these in while I was at it and gain a little extra height. Who couldn't use an extra half inch?
