Has anyone done an autox or track day while on really low grip tires, or dirt tires? I know your times would not be competitive at all, but think of all the fun that could be had! I always find the Super special stages that are tarmac, but done on dirt tires to be highly entertaining. Also, I think that your experience on tarmac with low grip tires would translate to off road experience...What do you think?

Dirt tyres get overheated and throw chunks on tarmac.. RE92s would be a better bet :D

However.. the auto-x guys (round here anyway) get real pissed if you take their courses sideways. Track days would probably end up as a miserable session of understeer, or getting black flagged for trying to Scandinavian flick round corners :D The scary thing about getting sideways on tarmac is the quickness with which it can snap back on you, IMO. The transitions are a lot more sudden.

As for translating to dirt, there's nothing like the real thing - even wet or on crappy rubber, the friction coefficients on tarmac are significantly higher and more consistent than on dirt.. but sideways is sideways..

Understeer city though, look at it pushing into those corners. Hydraulic handbrake makes all the difference for those quick 180s too.

What makes you think they're dirt tyres btw? Just the atrocious grip levels? :D

Honestly you're better off buying an old 240 and hitting a drift day for that kind of fun I think..

You are probably right about the 240...haha. Oh well, I'm just trying to think of ways to get sideways in the suby besides on dirt!

i've done one with snows in rear and RS-2s upfront ;) talk about oversteer.. I picked up 3rd in STS that day (maybe 10-12 sts cars, i normally place 2nd)

Get some used slicks or just used DOT r-compounds ... the older the better ...

Nothing is more fun on ( dry ) pavement than some cold "race" tires . :D
