TSD Road Rally, East Central IL, November 6th

The Champaign County Sports Car Club presents the "Monticello Monte" TSD Road Rally on November 6, 2011. The rally starts at Subaru of Champaign County in Savoy and ends in Monticello, IL. The format is a lot like a performance rally: 80% of the rally is un-timed "transit" sections, the other 20% is Control Zones which are like special stages except you attempt to maintain a single specified average speed instead of drive for maximum performance. Tulip diagrams are included to aid navigation. Mostly tarmac but a few sections of gravel. If I got a decent Subaru turn-out this time and good feedback I would consider doing a similar event in the future where the control zones were all gravel.

The event went well. Turnout was decent despite being the second event of three that were scheduled in a 22 day span.

I meant to take pics but was working checkpoint by myself and couldn't manage to do both at the same time. Next time I plan to ask someone to come just for that purpose.

The format was pretty well received so I'll probably won't deviate much for this years event other than changing the route. One segment from last year is certainly on the "avoid" list for a couple years; a fire-engine red Dodge Viper hustling a little trying to get back on time didn't exactly go over well with one of the local residents.
