also, there are three spots for switches next to the cruise control. are there any rocker switches that will fit in there? or in the spots in the center console?

I don't know what the bumper of your OBS looks like, but in Canada, the OBS bumpers are the same as the lower-model Impreza's. To get big foglights, we have to swap over to the USDM or JDM RS bumpers.

Assuming you've got the same bumper as the RS, you should be able to fit stock RS or Hella 500 foglights... you might even be able to fit a set of Hella 700's, if you push them forward out of the bumper a bit. If you've got the "base" style bumper, you can only fit small foglights under the turn signal. I'm not sure on the size, but most auto parts stores (NAPA, Pep Boys, etc.), and possibly even Wal-Mart, should have small, China-made halogen foglights... Most of them are round or sort of oblong, and have a blueish coating on the lens.

If you don't know what'll fit, pop off the cover (the big one on the RS style bumper, or the small black vent on the base bumpers) and take it to a shop and use that to compare foglight sizes... If the light is smaller than the cover, it'll fit.

As for switches... Either find a switch from another Subaru with the same dash (doesn't have to be a foglight switch, check the junkyards), or take out one of the blanks and drill it out to fit a SPST switch from Radio Shack. Just remember that a round switch will be easier to install than a square one, as you can just drill a hole in the blank. You've even got choices for round switches... toggle, rocker, pushbutton, etc.

Whatever you do, if you can't use the stock wiring, then make sure to run a relay for the lights. If you're going to be running larger, more powerful lights, or if you're planning on running more lights in the future, then go out and buy some 10 gauge wire and use that instead of the stock wire.

You can tap into the accessory wire from the ignition (or the power wire from the radio) using a thin (like 18 gauge) wire, run it to your switch, then from the switch into the engine bay (use stock grommets/wire passthroughs), and up near the battery. Mount a relay near the battery, connect one side of the thin wire to the relay (make sure it's the control posts, I can't remember the numbers), and ground the other post to the body. Then, run the 10 gauge wire directly from the battery, into a fuse (match it to your relay, so usually 30 amp or less), then into the normally-open post of the relay. Run another length of wire from the common post, to your lights, and then ground it out on the body. Under $40 worth of parts (not including the lights) and a couple hours of wiring (more of you're OCD, less if you're lazy), and you've got yourself a system that'll handle 350 watts of power (I believe the wire will take that much) and will automatically shut off when you turn off the car.

i dont have the same bumper as the RS. do you have any recomendations for fog lights that would fit into the smaller fog lights? i have a pair of hella 500 FF now that im trying to wire through a relay. but the hella kit wants me to splice a wire from the switch into the low beams or high beams. is there a way i can change that so the lights will always work no matter what the headlights are at? other than that i have the same set up you talked about above

run your switch lead for your relay off of your running lights, then they will be on whenever you turn your lights on by 1 click. then 12v, ground, and light power will all be the same

when you say run em off your then running lights, does that mean splice it into the wiring or going through the fuse box? sorry but i am terrible with electrical stuff
