LED lighting

has anyone replaced their brake lights or turn signals with LEDs? i would like to do both and i was curious what all was involved. i know i probably need a new blinker relay to handle the change in voltage but on my previous car, there was a problem where if you replaced all the brake lights with leds, the car wouldn't turn on or something like that. just want to make sure theres no issues like this before i buy some lights.
