Help!!! my 5 speed is stuck in 2nd gear and I cant get it out. It's been stuck since stage seven at Idaho. I've pulled the trans and can't find anyone who can rebuild it and I don't want to spend $750.00 on another used one that I don't know how long it will last. There's got to be someone who knows the tricks of making these things stronger and better.

If you have the trans out and want to see if its fixable by yourself, I'd suggest taking off the tail end of the trans, pull out the center diff, and take off the center section, and see if the shifter fork just somehow got knocked out.

I think you had a roller bearing pop out.

My car refused to go into 2nd a few days before Idaho, ended up being something else, but my crew chief was pretty sure it was a roller bearing. guess it happens to em'

i would think some of the other colorado guys may know someone, renegade, bubba02sti , uhm...

yeah, if you already have it out, opening it up and taking a look inside isn't too difficult.

http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=187&pictureid=1279It still was able to drive in 2nd gear, but a mechanic from a local dealership is going to fix it on the side. I have another one out of a 2000 rs that gets 1st , 3rd, 5th and neutral but no 2nd 4th or reverse. It don't make sense to take a spare to Gorman Ridge but I'll have it rebuilt and bring it with me to Prescott for a spare.

ah, I remember you guys....brand new car at Idaho, we spoke a bit at tech.

^^actually...if you can, bring it to Gorman. If you have trouble w/it in the first half of the day, they have a long lunch service (like....2hrs) that would be plenty of time to swap out a tranny.

not that you want to...but just saying you could. :)

Thanks Jon, sent the money for the camera tonight. Don't think I'll have the spare ready for Gorman. I'm also looking for a co-driver, unfortunatley my son won't be making it
