Hey, ive read some interviews where Pro Rally drivers talk about how they learned to read notes off of video games. Do any of you know what rally games they are talking about? Thanks You http://www.wrxtuners.com/forums/images/smilies//smile.gifhttp://www.wrxtuners.com/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif

Richard Burns Rally on the PC is generally considered to be the closest thing to a simulation that's commercially available - the graphics aren't mind-blowing but the loose surface model is by far the best one out there.
Being on the PC you can modify it to the 10,000th degree as well, including changing the pacenotes - there are several options out there. Out of the box it comes with 'simplified' notes read by Robert Reid (flat/fast/easy/hard/90/K/hairpin) but I can never get it straight whether 'fast' is easier than 'easy' :D so I run it with a mod that uses Nicky Grist's (mainly) numerical notes from one of the CMR games.
If you prefer a console, your options are limited really to one of the CMR games. The mechanics of translating the notes into actions is much the same of course, just that (for me anyway) the experience isn't as fun cos the car doesn't do what it would in real life. RBR was available for Xbox and PS2 in Europe but I don't think it ever made it over here.
Being an older game, you don't need a mega-powerful PC to run RBR, so that's cool. And it's much better (and closer to life) with a pedal and wheels of course... or one of these (RBR PC w/numeric notes being played)...

Hope that helps.

Video games like rbr with the numeric add on will help you get used to jemba stagenotes that rally america uses. Its very similar.
Colin McRae as well although the driving isnt as realistic.

Do you know where I can download the mod for numerical pace note?
I really hate the way they are called in RBR.

I still play RC2000 ... www.activescore.com <-- we have online competions on there...
Graphics suck, I like the physics better than RBR.. RBR is too slippery...
I am going to upload a copy of RC2000 to my website sometime soon ;) I'll keep yas posted!

Yep, get 'em at Blackhole Motorsports (http://www.bhmotorsports.com/download/10772)
btw this is kind of a funny thread (http://www.bhmotorsports.com/board/viewtopic.php?t=44590&sid=56) over there regarding co-drivers.

Heh.. I loved that game back in the day, but it stopped working at some point, I think maybe a video card issue. The stages were good cos they were so long, but I'll take RBR's physics any day, at least on gravel and snow. You gotta have the right setup though, it's very difficult to drive using anything but a wheel.. a gamepad or keys is useless (I use a Logitech Driving Force Pro, A1 steel pedals, Act Labs H-shifter.. and a home-brewed handbrake :D )
I read I think on Special Stage that using the "driver's seat" view also helps you with road positioning..

You should load it up ;)
Makesure you rightclick on the exe and got into properties, set the compatability to windows 98, ALSO put nofmv=1 in your ral.cfg, that fixes all of the problems with XP;)
We have 2 rallys going on right now over there at activescore... I am the only American! SO COME!

RBR is an amazing game. My friends and I will compete through a whole rally at night and its a blast. Unfortunately most of the time they get super pissed off when I beat them!
I do feel that the physics are just a touch to slippy on dirt, but that's okay since less grip is always more fun!

I second RBR being incredible. However it is indeed completly unplayable without a wheel and pedals. I use a Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro that I picked up on eBay for $15.
http://www.bhmotorsports.com/RBR/downloads has tons of downloads including new cars and updated phyiscs. I downloaded the 07 WRC Impreza and tweaked the physics so it feels like my car (2.5i) and it handles shockingly like it does on dirt and gravel. So an A++ in my book.

RalliSport Challenge 2 has notes, so do the Colin McRae Rally games although I find those really hard. I know RSC2 works on the 360. Out of all of the console games, I think RSC2 captures the 'feeling' of rallying best. But then it was made by Swedes...
