So I'm probably picking up a really nice 1997 Legacy GT 5 speed. I just have a quick question, why can't I find a single picture, or video of one of these awesome machines rally racing? Or even rally prepped? What is it about the second gen legacy that can't live up to the 1st gen? I understand it's heavier, but a lot of these parts are interchangeable..I really want it because it's a nice car and a great deal, but overall I want to start into the world of rally racing. Anyone have any idea as to why other than "they suck" (which I hope they don't) Thanks ;)

Everyone is Impreza crazy. 2885-3160 Pounds ish for a 97 legacy , where as a 97 Impreza is 2690-2770 lbs.
Also i think the legacy has a 103" wheel base where the Impreza has a 99.3" wheel base. In the south west we usually don't get super narrow and super twisty so having a slightly long wheel base isn't going to make you slower.
Legacies **should** have a lot more sound deadening , and heavier seats (luxary model) so you can probably get a lot more weight out of a legacy than an impreza.
So probably the slightly longer wheel base, and being 400 pounds heavier are why people skip over legacy's in favor of imprezas.
I'm not sure what set of legacy options ends up with 2885, vs 2690 for the imp. but that's really only 195 lbs more, which hopefully , maybe, could be more sound deadening and other things that will be removeable
Also I think Legacy's usually cost more to buy initially vs an impreza so guess those 3 reasons.
If you really like that legacy (i think its a great looking body style) then rally it.

My brother has a 98 gt wagon. We have taken out the fogs and put a stock suspension off a legacy outback for ground clearance, skid plate goes on this weekend:headbang:

my 99 was a rally beastie.
fitted with aux lights, skid plate, dms suspension, and more.
Did rallyx and tsd rally events in the car but never stage rally
My leggy was totalled when a Ford Exploder pulled out in front of me.....
It handled well, performed well, but as compared to the Impreza,
the chassis did not and does not respond in the same manner of crispness and response.
