4. 77 Datsun 280Z
5. 04 Subaru WRX Wagon

Motos:

I tend to not sell things when they should be sold... If I was smart, I would sell one bike, but I know I won't. I love riding the Bandit, so I will keep it. But I also like doing moto trackdays, so the ZX-6R stays since its a more capable bike.

Paul I didn't know you owned a Saab!!!

Not "a" Saab. "The" Saab. The 99 Turbo was the last real Saab before they went all normal. First production turbo saloon/sedan I believe. It was awesome. Me wife hated; always a good sign that. We drove it from Manchester down to Dover, across to Belgium on the ferry, over to Holland, round Holland for a few days, down to Paris and back in 23 hrs to watch the Tour de France finish, back to Belgium, back on the ferry, up to Manchester, parked it up outside my house, got up the next day, turned the key and the starter motro fell off the engine. Brilliant!

The engine bay was so stuffed full of engine that for two years I carried round an oil filter in the boot because I couldn't figure out how to change it.

Me Dad borrowed the car and called me up to tell me someone had stolen the seat belt buckle. That's after he spent an hour trying to find where to put the ignition key (probably thought that was stolen too, it was a bad area.)

Car did 0-30 in 7 secs and 30-60 in 1 sec. Now that's turbo lag!

I miss that car.

The engine bay was so stuffed full of engine that for two years I carried round an oil filter in the boot because I couldn't figure out how to change it.

HAHAHAHA!!

BTW. I can still hear your accent.8)

My list:

88 Nissan D21 Pickup (First love of my life. Plenty of memories. Blew the engine, replaced it, but it didnt feel the same. So I gave it back to my step dad)

05 Mazda "Rally" 3

Near Future:
A fixed gear bicycle. To get around San Francisco.

Well my list isn't nearly as distinguished as some of the rest of yours but here goes in chronological order

1987 Ford Taurus (4 cyl)
1997 Ford Aspire (had for less than a month before I traded my dad for...)
1987 Toyota Corolla (AE86 I still miss that one, got me into Rally)
1990 Geo Storm ($50 well spent)
1984 Porsche 944 (from the uncle with bad motor)
1973 VW Beetle (everyone should have one at some point)
1987 Chevy S-10
1970 Ford F-100 (351 Windsor with loud exhaust never heard the wheel bearings going out until I dropped a half shaft on the side of the highway)
1993 Mazda Protege (Girlfriend's while I was sans license)
1973 VW Beetle (yes the same one only this time the heat didn't work and it was in the winter)
1994 VW Passat wagon (the GF loved it with the back seats folded down)
1987 VW GTI (still miss this one too, best seats ever)
2002 Subaru 2.5 TS {current}(my first brand new car, still paying for it too)
1995 VW Jetta (traded 2 weeks later for...)
1991 Honda CRX (best $400 including new tires)
1997 Subaru OBS {current}(the project)
1995 Dodge Grand Caravan {current}(you try fitting 3 car seats in the back of an Impreza)

1980 Honda CB400
1992 Yamaha Seca II

next year the Caravan will be turning into an OB XT for the wife and hopefully the 2.5 TS is going to morph into an 08 STi courtesy of new job and a generous Uncle Sam.

12-16-2007, 11:02 PM
The 944 went to Porsche heaven aka my uncle's driveway. Several of the others met some untimely demises. The Taurus survived being flooded, cracked radiator, cracked exhaust manifold, cracked head, toasted valves twice, finally ending with a massive seizure. The AE86 taught me a lesson on aftermarket ignition systems when it caught fire in the engine bay due to coil shorting out. And the GTI was sugared by an ex and then had some *cough* traction issues *cough* during an ice storm.

1980 BMW 735 (got it in 2005, drove the girl until it died, step dad owned it since 1980 good memories, went sideways on turns on good days when the engine wanted to be powerful!!!)
2000 VW jetta 2.0 (135 hp jetta still took my brother supposidly 215 hp V6 mustang, but FWD sucks!!!)
2004 Subaru WRX (245 awhp on only 15 psi on VF-39, and AWD kicks RWD and FWD a$$ anyday!!! love it and wouldn't want anything else!!! ok maybe a new STi would be nice:D)

damn ex's! lol and man i have always wanted a AE86! just because they are fun cars and they seem to be good for one of my favorite hobbies!..drifting!

wolfman79
12-17-2007, 12:06 AM
Yeah the yota was awesome. Drifting wasn't really well known back when I had it, but it was perfect for doing TSD's and tearing up th back roads and AutoX. The GTI was great too and the Recaros in there were to die for, but the car I had the most fun in was the Geo. I wasn't afraid to mess it up so when I would happen to overshoot a corner and slide into a tree or light post it was no big deal. Just get the hammer out the next morning and straighten it out best we could.

RS-ti_Andy

The black '98 RS? That looks like a sweet car if that's the one.. Trading the wagon?

Here's my list of cars/bikes:

-'83 VW GTi 5spd
-'84 VW GTi-5spd, Learned fwd rally gravel driving/drifting in it..also the first car I rolled.
-'89 Nissan 240 SX Hatch 5spd..learned rwd drifting in the 240. So fun to pitch around. Well balanced car, not enough sack sooo then?
-'90 Mustang LX 5.0 Hatch 5spd. Loved that car! For $12k new, there still hasn't been a car built to come close to that package. Handled like crap until I put Eibach springs/kybs on. Ran 12s all day long.
-'67 Mustang Fastback GT500 replica w/390 Tripower (500+hp), 4 spd toploader and many, other bits.. really wish I still had that car:-(
-'90 VW Corrado G60, chipped, exhaust, sc pulley, suspension, meaty skins faaast car that handled great on 3 wheels..
-'8? Yamaha RZ350
-'90 Kawaski Ninja ZX500
-'90 Kawaski Ninja ZX6 gen 1, too much fun on that one..
-'91 Jeep Cherokee sport 4.0, 5 spd, offroad pkg.. biggest pos ever
-'90 Toyota 4x4 SR5 V6 XCab P/U, silver, stock
-'91 Toyota 4x4 SR5 V6 XCab P/U, blue, built. 3" rancho lift, lsd f/r, gears, warn hubs, smitty f/r bumpers, 9000lb warn winch, canopy w/safari rack, etc.
-'76 Toyota Landcruiser FJ55, I6, In/out overdrive, all kinds of good stuff.. Great truck offroad. very, very reliable.
-'84 Chevy 1 ton Dually 4x4, 7'x9' Flatbed, 350, AT (first auto)
-'82 Chevy 1 ton Dually 4x4, 8'x10' Flatbed, 454, Edelbrock 650, 4spd, 10,000lb Warn winch
-'85 Subaru GL Wagon, 5spd, dual range, carbitutued..Rallied that in 20"+ of snow many times. That was the beginning of my demise..;)
-'71 Mustang Mach 1 429 Cobra Jet, all original. Red w/black stripes, white intertior, AT, factory A/C, Magnum 500s. 4TO9CJ Lic. plate.. another one that got away.. Those sell for $70k+ at Barrett-Jackson. Bad ass car
-'93 Chevy Silverado 1500 SWB, 350 TBI, 5 spd. Good toy truck, not a good work truck..went through 3 trannies in 50k mi. Lots of wheelin in that one.
-'91 Subaru Legacy L wagon, 5spd, no ac, no pw, stripper.. Great car that spent lots of time on road trips and on gravel. Never any issues at all.
-'97 Subaru Outback 5spd. The first year of the 2.5 DOHC with a 5spd. This was way before we all figured out how bad they are..This was my "platform" to start modding (don't laugh)..Before there was really any aftermarket in the US for Subies. It was hard finding parts back then. Still, the list was long on that car. It hauled butt (spanked RSs, GTs, etc) and took you anywhere you wanted to go on or offroad, except rock crawler trails. That car is up in Portland now with near 300k on it (2nd eng)
-'97 Chevy k3500 4x4, 454 vortec, Hydraulic Dump/8'x'10 flatbed, AT. Good work truck. Lots of "issues" within 20k miles. My last gas powered truck..
-'98 Dodge Ram 3500 4x4, Club Cab Diesel, SLT, sweet truck..Passed empty gas trucks over the pass loaded down 75+ gaining speed..Like a freight train. Too nice, felt bad using (scratching, denting, dirtying) it..
-'92 Dodge Ram 350 4x4 Club cab dually, Cummins, AT, custom bumpers f/r (just in case). Great work truck, pulls anything, don't feel bad using it to the max..Rolling strong with nearly 270k miles on it.
-'90 Subaru Legacy LS rally car (The Beast). My first PGT car. Still running strong with no DNFs!
-'92 Subaru Legacy Turbo 5 spd. AKA Vader. All black, very sinister looking car. Ran great.
-2- '91 Subaru Legacy Turbos (pearl white, ruby red). One wound up my 2nd PGT car, the other a parts car.
-'93 Subaru Legacy Turbo wagon. White
-'94 Subaru Legacy Turbo wagon.. Sweet, sweet car. Silver, tint, hauled..should have kept it and swapped in a 5spd.
-'93 Subaru Legacy Turbo sedan (winestone), 5 spd, very rare car. Was going to build it for rally, but too nice. The new owner then proceded to run the Winter Alcan rally in it..
-'93 Subaru Legacy Turbo sedan (white), 5 spd. w/68k miles. Sold to a gent from Mass. that wanted a clean, rust free, low miler.
-'88 VW GTi 16v. Bought it on ebay, drove it awhile (great at rally x), built into a G2 rally car.
-'86 VW GTi 8v. Got it from a friend, turned into a G2 rally car.
-'90 Audi 90 Quattro 5 spd. Great winter commuter and rally x car. Heated seats and locking diff FTW!
-'86 Toyota 4x4 pu, 22R, 5 spd, Can't kill those 22r pickups..:machinegunleft:
-'88 Audi 90 Quattro. Built into a rally car..
-'96 Subaru Impreza Brighton. 2 owner car. This wound up as the 22B-righton rally car..
-'90 Eagle Talon TSI PGT rally car. Still in the NW rallying.
-'90 Subaru Legacy PGT rally car (Carmel bomber). Ran it at Doo Wops on time a few years back..now down in AZ. 3rd OA CRS GT championship '07.
-'71 Datsun 510 G2 rally car.. Really fun/easy to pitch in the gravel..This car also runs in CRS these days. I'd like to build another 510 at some point..Stellar platform, especially w/ SR20DETT..:p
-'94 Impreza FWD G2 rally car. Was 1.8, swapped in a 2.2 and Kaaz diff. Carl Decker won the NW 2wd and G2 championship this year in it. Great starter car.
-'90 Subaru Legacy LS wagon 5 spd. Great runner, rare 5spd. All the stuff too..
-'95 Impreza L wagon. Was 1.8, swapped in a JDM SOHC ej20. Now it's a rally x car..
-'99 Impreza L sedan 5 spd, nearly 190k when I got it.. Ran great, no issues
at all. 2.2s rule for mileage and reliability.

and the "family" cars..
-'95 Impreza L sedan 2.2L, at
-'96 Outback Auto
-'98 Forester L Auto

-'92 Mazda MPV 4wd
-'99 Honda Oddessey LX

-I've also had hundreds of other cars come in/out of inventory when I had a car lot. They were my cars, just didn't have them registered to me. Some very fun stuff too..A few notables..

I made it all the way through college before getting my first car. That sucked. I made up for time lost in short order though.

1973 Datsun 240z
2007 Subaru Impreza WRX (Wagon)

The Datsun soon developed too many problems to be a good commuter car, and not one to be reasonable and buy something practical I jumped straight to the other car I wanted ('cause I'm smart like that). I really do need to get the 240 back on the road...

ouch.. That's ok though, I've got many, many more miles in all kinds of cars (on and off road) due to that fact..Some of you might be my students at the Primitive Rally School at some point, and I don't drive like an old man.. You young bucks slay way more cones than the old dudes do..

FYI 35, and I've had a thing for cars since I was a kid..saved up for my first GTi (first hot hatch in the US) before I could drive. Have a had an auto dealers license for quite awhile too..that doesn't help out much when you're surrounded by cars all the time.

The wheels (BBS RAs) on Bfrancis's blue Golf were the same as the ones on my '84 GTi. Rolling 14"s strong YO! In the day, they were equal to having 17"s or 18"s on a WRX..

Wr-ecks,
You're the hero for starting this thread..It's been awhile since I've thought about all my cars through the years..I've been driving cheap Subies the last few years, and putting the extra $ into the rally car. 323s are quick, fun, and quite tossable in the gravel, but just have too much stuff that breaks and is hard to find..

Strat,
Is that Chev an '82 or '84? The grille looks like an '82..Clean looking truck.

yup - you are possibly the only one... look at it this way, Isuzu only sells SUVs in the USofA and SUVs in general are still a hot product here but.. Isuzu will be lucky to be still selling vehicles in America in 2010 IMO since everything they currently sell is based on 10+ YO technoligy.. yes, the VehiCROSS is kinda cool looking in a lame sort-of way and it is different but under the skin it is the SOS...

Wr-ecks,

I agree, I have probably never actually sat down and listed my cars before & BTW, my GTX was the most fun car I ever owned but I sold it for exactly the same reason... I felt that if I kept pushing it hard then something big was going to break and I was going to have to pay someone to re-invent whatever it was that broke... it was a sad day when that trailer pulled away

it's an '81. unfortunately, it looks better at that distance than it does up close. i'd really like to strip it down to bare metal and have it repainted. (it's three very similarly different shades of blue and the rockers are starting to rust again...)

My friend had an '85 GTi over there with those wheels. We were trying to start a golf beaters club. There were about five of us that would take pleasant little drives through the German countryside in our kick A$$ golfs.

Here's my newest. It was cheap and rust free. Runs, but has carb issues. Nothing a new Weber 32/36 won't fix.

Either that, or there's a guy in AU who really wants it. They don't have them there.

I've been blessed to be raised in the country where you can drive underage... plus the local auction made $50 vehicles possible...lol

90's escort wagon ( I was 11 there was the distinct odor of dead animals in it and after I cleaned it found two cats... that project was soon scrapped)

90's escort sedan (I was like 12 and rallyed her in the back pasture till I found a hidden cinderblock that took out the oil plug and exhaust... fixed the oil plug and continued exhaustless)

79 F250 high boy (the nieghbor's wife wanted it off his property, I did the nieghborly thing and helped him out :muhaha:)

89 nissan pickup (still listed on cardomain as "Mykal anstrom's rusty but trusty, I got it for $50 when I was 13. it had a garbage bag passenger window, no exhaust, but it was camed out bored out and generally setup as a ghetto pre-runner. I loved tearing through the pastures with it... plus it was listed as farm equipment so legally I could drive it around to the neighbor's...lol)

94 corsica (I was around 14 when I got this, far too nice to rally... when my mom was home anyway :muhaha:)

94 Dodge dakota (I was 15 and had my permit so my mom took my money from my saving account and bought me the perfect condition white dakota, the down fall was it was 2wd. But It was my first vehicle I legally drove...LOL then after about 3-4 months the steering got weird so I desided to let her go)

now my favorite of all these...
97 Subaru OBS ( when we took the dakota in to the dealership I had an instant love for this car :jack::headbang::jack::eek:
this was also when my mom first discovered she had breastcancer, RIP, and as any good actor would, she used it to her advantage and traded this faulty dakota straight up for the subaru tax title license and all... our only expense was fuel to get it home )

97 f150 5.7 triton v8
this is my only truck I miss I bought this to drive while my subby was in th shop for almost 4 months. the dealership gave us an unconditional warranty but forgot to mention a bad oil leak that left be blowing smoke on the way home from a 100+mile trip. thus my big honking f150 was the temp vehicle

79 cj7 5.0 amc 304
Along with my subaru this is the only vehicle I still have. In all honesty I'd be willing to sell it today for the right money..lol

As most of you know I'm a bit long winded :shootsself: but every vehicle has a story and I thought I'd share the storys also..lol

Nah, I'm only 45. I bought my first car (the Vega) for $50.00 when I was 14 years old. The cylinder head was laying in the back seat. I learned how to rebuild an engine, and work on my own cars with that one. 3 days after I got my driver's license, I rolled that Vega on a mountain road. Funny thing, it was an old GL-10 Subaru coming up the other direction in MY LANE that made me swerve to avoid hitting him head-on. I ended up getting the back of the car in the gravel shoulder, and I corrected for it. The back came back, hit the pavement, and grabbed and rolled the car! I had a really bad attitude about Subaru drivers for a long time! I figured all of the old people who used their Volkswagen buses as rolling chicanes traded them in on brown Subaru station wagons, so they could plug up the roadways with their little turds. Now that I own a Subaru wagon, I try to stay out of everyone's way!

1st car I shared with my sister was a Jetta
http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa84/car_pic_addict/cars%202/100_8560.jpg

Bought my own car next
1995 200SX SE-R
http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/ll186/Marco_Cano/200sx%20SE-R/S4020820.jpg

That car really got me into racing

Then I got a bike an R6...loved that thing
http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii549/Swiss_Tony/R6side.jpg

Then I moved to NY sold my bike and car. When I was out there I bought a GMC Jimmy.
http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f86/danp420/Picture209plateblocked.jpg

Moved back to California and was ready for a fun car again.
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e74/ravebot/BMW_E36_M3_8.jpg

Sold it to buy a house, replaced it with a Trailblazer. Still don't know why I went with that, since I wasn't a big SUV fan.
http://i1143.photobucket.com/albums/n625/spcronin/2003%20Trailblazer/IMAG0498.jpg

We got my wife a Sentra (my name was on it so I owned it, but she drove it.)
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e123/costamkury/sentra.jpg

Sold the Trailblazer got my Subie (check my journal for pics)

Got my wife a C230
http://i384.photobucket.com/albums/oo282/ckersal/dsa.jpg

Somewhere along the way we took over my mom's payments on a 2005 Porsche Targa. My step father wasn't taking care of it and she didn't was getting pissed so she bought him a Z71 trailblazer and snatched up that Targa.
http://i922.photobucket.com/albums/ad70/legomitchell/Porsche/Porsche98.jpg

Loved the car but hardly ever drove it. It got expensive just to maintain and I wasn't really driving it to much so we sold it. We had baby #2 on the way so it was the smart move. Didn't hurt as much as selling my M3. But it was gone. Got something with a little more room, so we bought my step fathers z71 tahoe...cheaper than at carmax :) Used the left over money to decorate the new kids room and put towards our current car loans.
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n169/roody25/2004%20Tahoe%20Z71/Picture020.jpg

And thats that. I have my subie, my wife has her benz, we have the tahoe. I want to sell the tahoe for some sort of truck that can tow better and my wife wants to trade in her car for a C63 AMG. But all in good time.

Yeah that was back in the late 90's when gas went from around a $1 to $2 and my commute increased. With the trucks I couldnt afford $20 a day in fuel.

It happens to the best of us

1985 Caprice Station Wagon - G-ma’s hand me down, had some V6 pep

1988 GMC Sierra 2500 - Dad’s hand me down, had some V8 pep

1991 Nissian Hardbody (pickup) – Great car, decent milage, good handling, utilitarian, slow though. Sold in 2000

2001 Ford Explorer SportTrac – Wife’s pre-married car that I had to endure. What a POS. Transmission, cruise, brakes and ignition never worked right. Very tippy. Not nearly as peppy as you’d expect a 4L to be in a such a small package. Useless bed.. Started leaking from two places at about 90kmi.. Gave it away to her parents after just 4years.

2000 Dodge Dakota, 4.7L V8 AT ext cab – First ‘new’ car. Tried drag racing, got bored, tried AutoX, became a ‘car guy’. Sold in 2004.

1972 Volkswagon Square back – bought and given to dad to replace the one that was wrecked in front of our house. (FOR SALE)

2000 Dodge Dakota, 4.7L V8 MT, standard cab – few more HP and MUCH less weight that first Dakota. First car bought purely for racing. Sold in 2007.

1994 Geo Metro XFi – Daily driver/beater. Stripped and modified for max MPG. Averaged 45mpg, top tank of 65mpg (with a draggy transmission). Sold in 2004.

1997 Dodge Neon ACR – Bought for wife to learn stick and race. 1 month later, she was with child, so became my ‘back up’ race car. Sold to a Rallyiest. Sold in 2007.

2004 Toyota Prius – Daily driver/beater. Wife drove for while, then hand me downed to me. Beats the Metro in MPG, but I still miss that POS. May be for sale soon.

1987 Toyota MR2 – Purchased with RallyX in mind. Won first RallyX nationals with it. Didn’t have patience to work on 20year old Japanese hidden engine, sold for near scrap in 2009.

1988 Ford E350, diesel, extended, topper ambulance – Needed a place to put all my cones. Leased this behemoth. Ran slow, unreliable, but everyone noticed it. Returned in 2006.

1993 Ford E350, gas, extended – Needed another place to put all my cones. Still slow, somewhat reliable, blends in with the other 300 white ford vans you see on the way to work. May be for sale soon.

2007 Toyota Sienna – Daily driver. We had too many kids. Despite the weight and stigma, it RIPS off the line with a 3.5L V6.

2006 Mazda MX-5 – Shared with the actual owner. AutoX specific race car. On its second engine and God only knows how many tires we’ve gone through. Probably for sale in the next year or two.

1985 Toyota MR2 – Purchased for ‘track’ car. Yes, I had four ‘race’ cars and no garage. Made one track event and a few solos. Mysteriously self destructed while in storage. Sold in 2009 as BOGO free with the other MR2.

1996 Buick Regal – Rally experiment gone wrong. Bought at auction, leaked too much and had broken suspension somewhere. Turn around on craigslist for $900 profit in a month.

1994 Mazda Miata – New Rally car. Cheap, with hardtop and roll bar. Survived a couple autoxes and a track day. Slapped some snow tires on and will hit the dirt next week.

Am I the only one with out a Subie in my list??;)

I'm with you there. Back in my younger days I used to tear around town in my parents' dodge caravan w/ 3 spd automatic; it could do 35 in 1st gear. I remember making a lot of BMWs mad when a minivan would stick right to their tail...:D

I don't know if I can remember them all but here goes:

From the past:

1967 Ford Falcon (straight 6 with a "three on the tree")
1965 VW Karmann Ghia
1963 VW bug ragtop
1957 VW bug
1963 Bug
1967 VW 10 window bus
1963 VW single cab truck
1991 Honda Civic Hatchback DX (JDM Si swap...)

Currently:

1986 Toyota truck 4x4 (pure off road toy, not street legal)
2007 Toyota FJ cruiser (the tow rig for the toy and the family grocery getter)
1964 1/4 Ford Mustang (the lonesome project car sitting in the garage collecting dust...)
2005 Impreza RS

I'm sure some of the dates are off a little in the VW phase, it's a little foggy after 20+ years :)
