Right at crossroad, then have an intersection that looks like a crossroad but is really just a sideroad because to the left is a sign that says "Dead End" or "No Outlet," If you can't/don't want to "goof loop" it you can use a pause instead of an instruction to turn.
Right (or Pause) at "T" instead of Right (or Pause) at T
"Blackjack" trap. Control is in plain site just beyond an intersection. Instructions call for a turn or pause at the intersection, but the rally team forgets that as soon as they see the control and drives strait in.
Super short leg (One turn or terrain feature away from the outmarker), catches teams that like to start by running a little early. Also catches Limited or Stock teams that take a little distance to get into rhythm.

do you guys think a $5 entry fee is acceptable... especially since the entry fees will be divided up as prizes for the top three finishers

holly crap!!!! In latvia entry fee for TSD is 130$!!!!!!!
And don't forget that gas costs twice more and payrolls are lower too...
i would love 5$ entry fee....
Well problem in here is that all our events are made with one purpose - to bring cash to organizers.. shame...

Ideas depend upon rules, here's some common ones I've found in New England
- change the CAS at the checkpoint/control
- Keep Island on Left. Right at stop
(when there's a stop sign at the exit to the island, that won't be the Right at
Stop because one intersection can't be used for two instructions. )
- Main Road rules. Left onto Cutter Ave. Cutter Ave becomes Main Road. At next/future intersection, Cutter turns right/left, and straight ahead is Smith St. With no instruction at the intersection, team may be tempted to proceed straight as possible onto Smith St rather than correctly folloiwng Cutter to left/right. You'll need to have Cutter and Smtih intersect again later to get everyone back on same route. Put the checkpoint on Cutter.
Regarding $5 entry fee: That's a bargain!

Thanks jl... I did something like the cutter instruction on the last one... Lol... The reasom I was asking about the price of the entry fee is there havent been any tsds here since the 70's... So I tookit upon myself to create the crrc and get road rallies going again... Im trying to keep them a basic format but still challenging I like that island instruction... Ill use it in one of the upcoming ones...

Most novice/local rally drivers aren't great at doing Main Road Determinants. But there's one that I did once that everyone enjoyed and "got".
Animal Rights Rally
Do all your normal TSD stuff. But the overall rule was, if you saw any kind of an animal crossing or animals in area sign, you stopped working the current instruction, took the next right, then continued in the instructions.
Simple, fun, everyone understood it.
Plus, catchy name. ;)

[Montgomery Burns Voice] Exxxxelllent, Smithers! [/Montgomery Burns Voice] I'm going to have to borrow that. I'll be scouting the countryside now for animal signs.

Soooo I have gotten the Kiss the Camel TSD set up and ready to go for this weekend... I am still using a fairly basic system with a few more things added... But now that i have everything i need for it out of the way it has given me time to think about the CRRC and future plans with it... so i wanted to run a few ideas/questions past you guys and see what you think...
I want to set up classes... similar to those of the scca rallyX format... but on an experience level... all classes would have a designated letter infront of their numbers to help with the ease of scoring... the basics for the classes would go as follow (keep in mind i will be adding stuff changing it around as needed these are just ideas)...
novice: the car numbers would look like this N(XX)... the most basic and simple instructions... all participants must compete in this class at least once before moving on the next class... If they feel like they are able to move on to the next class for the next tsd they are welcome... after x/amount of rallies the participant would have to move on to the next class...
amateur: the car numbers would look like this A(XX)... the instructions would be a bit tougher throwing in more of a challenge... they must participate in this class at least once... If the participant feels like they can move on to the next class they are more then welcome... after x/amount of rallies they must move on the next class
proAM: the car numbers would look like this PA(XX)... participants must compete in the prior two classes before being allowed in this class... the notes will be tougher as well as adding some notes from the pro class... Participants are welcome to stay in this class but will be encouraged to advance to the pro class at the end of the season... Participants must compete in this class at least 3 times before moving on the pro class
pro: numbers would look like this P(XX)... These would be "pro status" notes... the toughest they can get... all participants must meet the qualifications of each prior class... a participant can move down in class if they find these notes to be too tough... at the end of the season those who move down to the PA class will be once again asked to jump up to the pro class...
Entry fee: what is an average entry fee for a tsd... where does the money go anyway... I like the idea of having one and giving a cash prize to the winning participants... I have also been throwing around the idea of using the entry fee for season trophies and award plaques of various things... and maybe still giving cash prizes... of course all entry fees would be going back into the CRRC in some way
Points system: I have been thinking about setting up a points system for both the drivers and codrivers for the season... yay? nay?
How many rallies would make a good season? I was thinking 6-8
What kind of rallies would make a good season? Mini tsd? a medely of "types" of stages? A snow one will most likely be there. Same with a night tsd. HMMMMM maybe a 24 hour or enduro one? (yeah i just though of that)
Like I said the CRRC is a new series and is still growing... Myself and a couple other members are the founders to it as well... so changing up the rules or adding any really isn't that big of a problem... I really want this to grow into something that i can shove in the faces of the SCCA and tell them i told you there was interest (which there already is) lol... so any ideas are welcome at this point... feel free to discuss away
Sponsors/Supporters: I have brought a couple into the mix... yes di is one of them... I feel like they give it a more professional appeal to them as well... and i figure they couldn't hurt
BTW i changed the thread title... I felt this was more apporpriate

give water balloons at a stage beginning and tell them they have to do a drive-by water ballooning. it'll be at a target at a trap checkpoint. points off to zero for hitting, no points for missing, and a penalty for not trying (or popping the balloon before the checkpoint).

oooh... or do a bullrun with a mandatory checkpoint in the middle... BUT... first person at the checkpoint has to wait 10 minutes, 2nd car waits 6 minutes, 3rd, 2 minutes... etc, etc. or whatever times, i just made up wait times.
edit: that wouldn't work so well with a staggered start...

you could have a trap at a dirt corner and someone taking video; competitor who pulls the best dirty turn gets points off to zero... to be voted by competitors at the end of the tsd or stage.

I like the water balloon one... Lol...
Having a checkpoint on a bull run is possible... But on a stagerd start would be hard to time
And everyone would vote for themsevles on a best clip...

yeah the water balloon would be awesome fun... even the crew at the trap would have some fun.
a delayed checkpoint on a bullrun would only work with a shotgun start.
and you could make the race organizer/crew team settle the tie-breakers. if the winner only gets 1 point it would make the 'dirty picture' competition a little more friendly and you'd have better pictures than just parking lot photos. good thing #60 was rolling with a gopro.

Here is another problem with best slide... It will put your miles off quite a bit... For example when I was going from check point to check point I was hooning it as you could tell when I went flying past... At the end of stage 2 and 3 where this hooning on stage took place my odo was off by over half a mile... This will out everyone off course if this happens...

whoa... i never would've guessed it would add up to that much!
in any case i'll keep brainstorming other things to throw in for fun.
