3k rpm noise

Alright so my 2005 2.5rs makes a very irritating noise around 3k rpm's its kind of like a low grind and it'd only when the engine has to work like if im in fourth gear and get on the gas. Subaru says nothings wrong but to me a noise like that can't be normal have any of you heard this sound? Any feed back would be great!

Where is the noise coming from? If its coming from where the shifter sits then its the shifting bushings. Every Subaru I have owned from a 93 legacy to my 2007 OBS does it. I replaced my WRXs' with the kartboy kit and the sound went away. It made the shift feel better too.

Also if its coming from under your car the 2.5s like to shake thier exhaust heat shields loose after a while (my 07 is doing it at 47k miles). Its not really a grinding sound though...

No its not from the shifter. But i am lifting my car up today so ill check the exhaust shield. Subaru says its a normal noise but it bugs me to no end. It actually is coming from the engine. I was just wondering if anyone has ever heard the same noise or not.
