Ok di im thinking I want to do a diy intercooler spray... My questions to you is... really that bennificial... Ok thats a stupid question I know the colder the air the better... But is it worht spending the $20 at a pick n oull for a pump and bucket... I have plenty of vacumm line laying around so thats not a worry... All I would have to do is get a nozzle... I would probably use the hood nozzles from the pick n pull donor... Or find something at depot of de home... And run the lines from my trunk... Or if you guys feel its not really worth it I was thinking of just splicing my windshield lines and doing it that way... I guess the down side would be my wipers turning on anytime I sprayed... Ideas thoughts oppinions... Cool thanks...

Well i belive its worth it... It don't cost a lot and it might help in hot day...
Anyway i used rear window washer fluid reservoir for intercooler water, (its comes with motor into it), run line from reservoir (in trunk) to intercooler, and used original STI air directing piece in hood with nozeles from factory... So now when i turn rear window washer fluid on - it cools my intercooler...

Mmm here is pic of that JDM STI stock air piece with nozzles...
And like i said - i only re-routed tube from rear window washer fluid reservoir to this piece.. (well STI intercooler reservoir is in trunk too)...
Anyway here is pic:

mount a switch that activated the pump off the throttle pedal. I would use something like what a motorcycle has mounted with the foot brake as the switch, mount it secure under the dash and have a spring connected to the throttle (so it stays active past the triggering point)
look for an 06+ impreza for the washer tank which mounts/fills the void space below the battery between the weheel liners and bumper. you will need to dill a hole for the filler neck, but at least its in a convienient spot and might come with the pump if you get it used.
It will looked rigged together unless you find a premade piece to mount on the intercooler. because there is no nozzles that look decent there besides the factory ones (that I have seen anyways, everything else looks so bulky)

I have one wired to a boost switch. It's adjustable so you can pick what PSI it will start spraying at. Mine comes on at 12psi and stays on until you go below that pressure. I'm using 3 300cc nozzles on my fmic.

The Jackson Rally car has the throttle IC spray setup, IIRC.
I'd think washer nozzles would give too direct of a jet btw. For optimum cooling, you want a mist, especially given that IMO one overlooked use of an IC spray is when the heatsoak sets in - i.e. when airflow through the IC is minimal. For that reason I think you'd want a manual activation option too.
I rigged one on the Corrado many, many years ago. I used a 1/4" irrigation sprayer nozzle and drove it off the washer pump during the summer, since the wipers didn't work worth a damn on that car until they came out with the Bosch Icon type blades. It's a different setup from the WRX of course - the intercooler on the Corrado is in front of the driver side front wheel, so I drilled a hole in the duct and mounted it there. It was fairly (okay very) ghetto, but it did work, at least in that it sprayed. I never got around to testing temp drop though. I don't remember how I got around the wipers going on though.
The Evo has two modes, manual (push to spray) and auto, which supposedly sprays "intelligently". Depending on how complex you want to get, you could probably rig something to spray intermittently though. Maybe using an intermittent wipe module?
Interested to see what you come up with.. I'm going to revisit it on the Corrado now that car is going back together.. hopefully I can do a better job with a decade more of experience (of cars and sprinkler systems) and a garage :D
The ultimate setup back in those days was to use a NOS bottle to provide cooling via a sprayer bar arrangement...

Yesterday i re-made my DIY intercooler spray. I didn't liked setup with fluid reservoir in trunk bcz it was long waiting before water come to intercooler...
So i removed stock window washing fluid reservoir, removed pump (it was broken anyway) that pumps water to headlight washers, and in place i put some hondas window washer pump... Used some silicone to make sure i don't have any leaks...
After that i connected hondas pump to subaru headlight pump wires,
run tube from pump to nozzles, and bolted everything back...
So now water is comming to intercooler when i press Headlight washer button on dash....
Anyway - i don't like this setup too..
Reason - OEM headlight washer button only lets you spray for 2sec.. So i have to push that button all the time.. i want to be able to hold it as long as i want...
So im gonna be using different switch and wireing soon...
Anyway - some pics of setup i made yestarday.

They seem fine now. I'm hosting them on my home server, and even though it's generally very reliable, I wouldn't be surprised if it cut out occasionally.
