So i finally got all my gauges hooked up. This begs the question now, what is normal for:

On a 2004 STi (EJ25, Stock Turbo)

Exhaust Gas Temperatures? - I am seeing that when i'm driving on the freeway it pretty much hovers around 1400F. Idling at a stoplight it drops down to 700F or so.

Oil Temperature? - takes quite a while to warm up, but generally is around the 220F on the freeway, If i remember correctly. Its only been a few days since i've driven with this one hooked up.

Oil Pressure? - This one i am the most confused about. Is it supposted to be pegged at 100+PSI when the motor starts and warms up?
When the motor is idling its down at about 40PSI but ranges anywhere from 80 to 100+. Did i hook this gauge up incorrectly?

Thank you gauge guru's!

EGT: dunno

Oil temp: 220 is probably okay. I know it's not really a comparison (well apart from being a 4 cyl forced induction) but the Corrado gets up to that kind of range at continuous fwy speeds.

Oil pressure: It will be much higher when the oil is cold, but 100+ seems overly high. The general rule of thumb I go by is 10psi per 1000rpm, once the car is fully warmed up. So it sounds like something might not be right. Where did you hook up the sender? Tee off from the factory sender location? And is there any calibration or something on the gauge? (can't imagine why, pressure is pressure.. but still).

I have the sender installed on an Oil Sandwich Adaptor (mmmm oil sandwich.....)

Oil Pressure is the big guy on top, the oil temp is the little one.

Maybe at my next oil change interval i should move the oil pressure sender to one of the side input ports on the adaptor?

yeah.. cause why would they have the oilpressure at the filter? mabe the pressure is higher at that point.. hmm oh also.. the exaust is like right there.. meaning its very warm and maybee that creates a problem for the pressue.. meaning the warmth makes it less dense and moves quicker right there..lol idk, is that where the stock pressure gauge is located? or is it on the side of the block?

My bros oil pressure pickup is hooked into the stock deal...I know his pressure is at 100 during cold start up and I wanna say it goes below 40 when idle and warm???

Keith...help us out here!!

I'll chime in for oil pressure:

From my experience, on a cold start, it's normal for the oil pressure to be high, pegging off the upper limit of the gauge you have. This is because the cold oil will require more work to push through the system. Once the car is fully warmed up, at idle you should be seing around the 15-20psi range, and cruising on the freeway you should see ~ 70psi.

One thing you might want to check is that the oil pressure sending unit is grounded properly. I had an issue with this in my old WRX, which cause funny readings all the time. I ended up fixing the ground, and the pressure sensor worked fine (note the ground for the gauge itself and the sending unit are different... I made the mistake of assuming they were the same!). Other than that, your sandwich adapter setup looks good, just verify that you've got some plumbers tape on those threads to prevent any leaks.

On a side note, my philosophy with oil pressure is that if you have pressure, you're doing OK. I'd say if the car was running well before installing the gauges, you most likely just have a wiring issue with the gauge itself. It's a great thing to have, but since the car didn't come with the gauge stock you never worried about oil pressure, and now that you can monitor it, you get a little paranoid about it.

Like PSG STI said, when I first put my oil pressure gauge on I was a little paranoid. When the car is cold it usually hits 100 PSI or a little more. It slowy drops as it warms up.
Warm @ idle= about 20 PSI
Warm under load = 80-90 PSI

+1

same for me

Good info! I have the sender grounded to the battery along with the oil temp sensor/sender. The car is running fine, and basically i have the gauge to see if it ever is ever low under load.

Starting up, that makes sense that it is very high on the dial, again not too concerned because the car starts the same and only now do i have something to look at (the new gauge). Right now it pegs off the scale under load which i think is odd, so ill clean off the ground and see if that helps.

It drops to about 40 psi at idle which is much higher than what you guys are describing. I did in fact put some sealant tape on the threads before cranking it into the adaptor.
