I was a tester for Ming at http://www.ixizconcept.com/, and his beloved ixizshift II. I received the shifter FAST, and communication was excellent! Ming definitely has top notch customer service. I have had the shifter installed for a few days now. I didn't want to jump the gun and post a review before I gave it a good test.
Product:
ixizshift II w/ optional 135gram weight, and boot holder.
Installation...
A freaking breeze, but I also am a professional mechanic. Literally took 5 min to install.
Getting it dialed in took a little longer though. I started at the set position 30% and took it for a drive... Nice solid feel, but the throw is a little to long for my taste. So I pulled back into the shop and started to toy with it... I decided to try 40% reduction. I noticed that when I tried to adjust the shifter that the shift rod was hitting the metal boot holder. I found this odd because I already had it trimmed because I was running the Perrin Short Shift Adapter unit at there "shortest throw"... So I had to take it out and trim it some more. Got that done and adjusted, and tried it out. I didn't even leave the shop with it like this. It was incredibly short, and stiff. Very hard to move the shifter and hard to feel the gear. I immediately didn't like it, so I took things back apart and adjusted it to 35% reduction. (In order to adjust the throw, it sometimes requires the removal of the bolts. This can be a little difficult in the car, but very doable. Just make sure you lock-tight them and re-torque them to spec.) So, put it at 35% and took her for a spin. Felt great! Smooth and short shifts. Excellent feel, and very positive shifts. The optional weight is doing its job, and I HIGHLY recommend getting it. OK, I got it dialed into my liking, now I just need to drive it around.... It started to snow good on my way home, so I decided to go do some industrial park rallying! Every shift was nice and firm, not a missed shift yet. I even noticed that a hard 2-1 downshift is more crisp and firm. Before I kinda had to feel it in, now its just clicks in.
I can not yet vouch for the optional boot holder. I am still currently running the stock knob.
In closing, this is the best bang for your buck shifter out on the market. What other shifter gives you the option to have it weighted, and adjustable both in height and throw? Get this shifter, you will not be disappointed! Don't forget to get the optional weight with the shifter, this is what actually sold it for me in the first place.

No it will not. I believe he is working on it though. I will try to get him to sign up over here to answer your questions better.

sorry this is my first post i just joined - noob
Yes I will have a few available next week.
I will be receiving a stock OEM SS to make sure the spacing and verify that the ixizshift II will be a significant improvement over the OEM otherwise i would not be changing it for the sake of a change.
Please email me because i just do not have a lot of time online (sorry)

STi (6 speed)shifter has a reverse cable goin thru the center shaft and the ball and socket is different and the bushing widt is also different
My heart is with the WRX/92x because i have a 92x, and STi always have more toys :). I will serve the STi community next.

smilling
you will appreciate it soon
even with the stock knob its not always pointing (orientation) in the right direction when tight - YOU can use the boot holder as a lock nut as well :)

i recv the OEM SS today and the short shifter from the factory is already set at about 25% less than stock already
Ixizshift II can further reduce it by about 10-15%
If anyone else is interested please PM or email me because i will only make a short run about 5 sets only. Of course all the other ixizshift II benefits will still be available

Hey everyone, so I've been talking to Ming about this and wanted to see what other interest is out there:
would anyone else want an extension to shorten the distance from your steering wheel to your knob? I know I've seen setups like this before, and I assume they must be custom since I've never actually seen them anywhere.
It would be a removable piece (offroad use only) and would raise the shift knob about 6 inches up, and angled forward about 3-4 inches as well. This would put the reach much closer to your 2 or 3o'clock position on the steering wheel.
Ming and I were trying to see if there's a market for this type of easy extension. Thoughts?

I am down.
Have you seen how high the shifter is in the Rally Innovations GC? the top of the knob is literally right next to the steering wheel.
EDIT: found a pic

i already have a prototype on hand after talking to Jon (within an hour) :)
I know that its not canted forward 3-4"
but im sure i can mfg one that is
In fact i have already a design in my head that is even better than initial thoughts
http://www.ixizconcept.com/ixizshift/ixizshift2_ext.jpg (http://www.ixizconcept.com/ixizshift/ixizshift2_ext.jpg)
maybe start a new thread and not confuse this existing
I dont think i need to cant it that far forward because the design of ixizshift II is not angled like the OEM. OEM the further away it goes the closer to the driver the end of the shifter is.

Ixizshift IIB ready to ship as soon as i get the order and which optional items you like to include. At this time I only modified 5 sets and will do a second batch when the complete ixizshift II is done. When ordering plese add note its for the IIB or a note [OEM SS]
Ixizshift II STi will be available late January that will incorporate all the features of the ixizshift II and maybe even one more

So have you manufactured the extensions like the shifter pictured above? How does it sit in relation to the steering wheel?

dude, don't make me do geometry on your ass!
I'm hoping, with the factory SS kit, and this short shifter, with an extension, it will even out to be the same as stock. BUT, with it that much closer to the wheel, you'll spend more time with your hand on the wheel, and less on the shifter, which should make you faster.
and if you don't buy that, that's ok....cause it comes with a money back guarantee. not the product, just the theory. My theory above is guaranteed...if it doesn't work, you can have your money back;-)
Chuck Norris doesn't do geometry. When Chuck looks at a geometry problem, the square peg fits in the round hole, x is always squared, and the angle opposite the side knows when to shut up.

I dont thing Ming would like you making guarantees related to his products.
Same goes for Chuck.
What is the thread size on the extension?

We all like to mod there is no way nor would i discourage someone from modding a part.
Just make sure dont do crazy stuff. If you have question(*s) just ask me and if i dont think you should i will tell you.
The only concern i have with such long extension and moment arm im not sure how precise the shifts will be.
Jon please call me asap

so who's making the extension for this shifter??? goixiz can you provide something that has relatively short shifts between gears, yet has a long extension so the shift knob is right at the 3-o'clock position next to the steering wheel?

Theoretically not possible with the simple fulcrum design (standard shifter) = stock 2 pt connection. When you extend the longer end it will require more travel for the same amount of movement on the shorter end. Of course i can design a linkage system to change the contact points but it will not be economical to make it and there is not that many interested to support a higher quantity cost reduction

yeah, i figured the geometry would need to be changed quite a bit to have short throws and a big extension...
... this might not even be possible?!

If you can find out how much lower the linkage arm/cup thing can go, you might be able to just make a rear shifter stay that lowers it. that way bottom half and the top half's length ratio can still be reduced while extending the top. blah..
