i am curious, has anyone ever been able to get a 3" exhuast to sit up high in the driveshaft tunnel, so it doesnt cause excessive issues with ground clearance? i had a 3" on my car and it scrapped on everything (even on pavement).

is this on a turbo or NA car? 3" exhaust would rob torque from an NA car.
i've never had 3" even on my WRX. 2.5" was plenty there and it was pretty much the same clearance an an OEM system.

Turbo of course. the car was turboed and i had a 3" exhuast on it. it is now NA again until i can get my motor built. but after that happens i will be putting the 3" back on, or getting a new one made. i am curious how well the 3" can fit in there though. i want to stiull be able to have fun even though i have a large exhuast.

On the rally car I have it as tight as I can but it does take a beating. I think that is just one of the names of the game with a three inch exhaust.

I have a 3" and I haven't scraped it on anything out and in the stuff. Granted I have an '03, but look at some old pics of the McRae days and see how they do it. Im sure that they got it higher the same way the new WRC does, By removing the gas tank, putting one in the trunk, and putting it on the bottom of the trunk floor.

^ good call. I should check out the old WRC cars and see how they did it. it would kinda suck to move teh gas tank on my daily driver though.

Mine doesn't hang too low on the rally car, but boy, it takes a beating!!

same for me it seats low enough and it does scrape once in a while. i was also thinking with all this beating up on the exhaust wouldn't that have an impact on the turbo since it's connected to it?

I like to think that i have a pretty hightucked exhaust. The only part that really comes close to hitting anything is the bottom of the DP. The midpipe and on sections of my 3" piping is right under under the driveshaft so i dont think it can go any higher. My muffler is pretty much a flat oval too. Got some short and very stiff exhaust hangers too.
I have yet to hit it on something...

I dont think it would unless you have a solid singlepeice setup. Im sure the connections absorb a lot of the impact and then, of course, goes back to normal after the object has been overtaken.

Mine is solid from the dp back so there isnt much to absorb the damage. The resonator is the lowest part of the car now. it has taken some real abuse and i have only done pavement driving with it.

DAMN!!!! you have to be really low to do that kind of damage. i would suggest going to a custom exhaust place and have them lift it as much as possible. my exhaust hangs about 2" max from the lowest part of the frame (the beams that run along the car) the only damage i've gotten is from going up silverado canyon in orange county (really rocky and uneven road)
check that out it shouldn't cost you more than like 60 bucks

When I had the 3" made I had the guy tuck it up as far as possible (i helped) we bent and twisted that piping so it sits as high as we can get it. the issue is the DP. I have a Helix bellmouth and it just seems to sit kinda low. although the DP seems to be unscathed.
I am running on AGXs and Pinks. so there is a decent drop. entering parking lots = death to exhuast. I have some pics at home of the dmg so far on the exhuast. i will try and find them.

Not to worry Aaron, you will! especially if you launch the car. One bad landing, and the DP is flat..
As Erik mentioned, par for the course. 3" exhaust gets pummeled on most rally or rally x cars.

^ you have a 04 wrx though.(right?) you have a different exhaust tunnel than a GC.
Just took my DP off again and man.... you can see the places it rubbed because all the heat wrap got shredded off.

I think on the 04s they are tucked up in just alittle bit more than the GC's.
