Time to get serious, the season is upon us.

First Glen Helen of the year is just two weeks away. Saturday is an open practice day, Sunday is the normal championship.

Link to Registration (MyAutoEvents) (http://www.myautoevents.com/pls/mae/frmEventDetail.Show?psevent_id=11758)

Pre-reg closes the week before the event, then prices go way up.

Tech and Reg open at 7am
Walking 7am-8:30 and at Lunch
First car off at 9:00

Saturday (Practice) Fees:
$10/lap or $40/5

Sunday (Championship) Fees:
Pre-Reg SCCA Members $50
Pre-Reg Non-Members $55
Pre-Reg 2nd Entry* $40
Reg Day-Of $70

*2nd Entry is any "X" run after normal class runs

There's already 20 entries, at least one in each class, but now is the time to register so we can start planning for the number of entrants! You do not need to pre-pay to take advantage of the pre-reg discount.

What we really need right now is for more people to pre-reg for the practice. It's a good opportunity to test out your car and the surface. Having the practice in place helps keep the weekend expences cheaper, but only if the practice attracts enough drivers.

As for the championship, trophies for the class winners are already in, and they are unique! There should also be medals for top 3 in all classes and a special prize for top lap of day. Additionally, at least $4 of every entrant goes into the prize pool for the season series (details can be found on the CalClubRallyX.com site).

Novices and experts alike are welcome. If you think you need it, instruction is usually easy to find, and we have some loaner helmets for free use as well.

Link to CalClub RallyX Page (http://www.calclubrallyx.com/)

If we get a good start on the year, I think we're going to build some momentum for a seriously cool season.

Never mind found it...I think

I am assuming those would be the classification rules that are being used?

Good guess -- but wrong, sorta. Rules are on http://www.calclubrallyx.com/

Basically a hybrid of the above SCCA rules but using CRS-inspired tire restrictions.

Kind of, like Bill said. For the most part the SCCA class rules are what we're following (with some obvious combining). I've added the additional tire restrictions to 'soft transistion' from the CRS rules. They are found at:
http://jaycomservices.com/Event_Management/CalClubRallyX/GH_Sup_Regs.html

Or specifically:
S2 - SCCA Defined Stock Front and Real Wheel Drive, with the additional restriction of street * tires.
SA - SCCA Defined Stock All Wheel Drive, with the additional restriction of street * tires.
P2 - SCCA Defined Prepared Front and Real Wheel Drive, with the additional restriction of street plus ** tires.
PA - SCCA Defined Prepared All Wheel Drive, with the additional restriction of street plus ** tires.
M2 - SCCA Defined Modified Two Wheel Drive
M4 - SCCA Defined Modified All Wheel Drive

*Street tires include those tires sold as “Passenger Tires”. Street tires do not include ice/winter specific tires (currently designated by the mountain/snowflake emblem or the words ice/snow in the tire name), light truck tires (designated by “LT” on the sidewall), or tires designated for rally or competition use. The original tread may not be modified (siped or grooved).
**Street Plus tires are defined as street tires with the added allowance of ice/winter specific tires.

No promises (as this is the first season under this ruleset), but we'll likely be a little loose on the allowances, especially the stuff that's not going to speed you up.

Cool, thanks. One other question though, about intakes. This is what the rules state:

"3. Any air filter may be used, but it must fit in the stock location."

Does that mean I can only use a drop in? Or can I use a short ram type intake that has the filter sit in the original location?

I forgot to mention a more detailed schedule will be put out about the Wednesday before the event. The goal of the days schedule will be to only require drivers to be there half the day (morning or afternoon). So while everyone is welcome to show up early and leave late volenteering, you should only have to be there for a few hours.

Jay- When I posted "no fires" I was unaware that fires were OK. I talked to the venue last year and they gave me the OK. I just asked that people be reasonable with it (no 20' out of control pallet fires or the like). Everyone was good about keeping is safe and sane. It's your call though.

If you click on 'Register', it should show your entry (you can edit your entry here too). There'll be a "Submit another entry" button.

To register for a practice, pick the class "PRACT"

For April, the classes should have a SAT or a SUN following them. Pick accordingly.

Under a week to go. Watch out, pre-registration closes Wednesday night. After that, it's day of registration only at a significant price bump.

We've currently got 46 driver's signed up, spread over the six classes very well. We're prime for good competition and great fun!
Come out to the practice Saturday. Attendance looks light, and it's the perfect opportunity to 'try it out' for just a few laps.

I haven't gotten the venue rep to call me back. But my understanding is the lock is up to me. So I'll unlock it Friday when I get there, and leave it unlocked until Sunday when we leave.

Same deal with fires. The venue hasn't gotten back to me, but 'within reason' fires have been excepted in the past.

speed does not equal winning. if your car is not lifted, then obviously the fasted way throught that gulley was not balls to the walls. if i went to fast, like above, I would loose my ability to turn, thus shooting me forward and wide on the turn. obviously not the way to make up time.

It's looking like we're going to have some great weather for the weekend, However it will be cool at night.

Highs around 80, and lows in the lower 40's. A little breeze should help keep the dust moving.

For everyone planning on camping over Saturday night, please bring a bundle of firewood so that we can have a nice fire to stay warm around. Last time we tried the burn the leftovers from the poor trees that were around the old sand pit and that didn't work too well.

One more shamless promotion. If anyone wants me to bring them a hoodie, let me know! (cambo i have yours)

Rally Cars weren't the only casualty. My van wouldn't start at the end of the weekend. Somewhere in the starting system, and I swapped the battery, so cables or starter.

I had AAA tow it to a garage today. Little commical when the front end of the flat bed recker lifted three feet in the air as they backed up the sliding bed. I guess they weren't equipped for 4tons of RallyX in a box. My trailer is still at GH (since that's not covered in AAA).

Probably have to go back out there tomorrow night and collect all my vehicles. Better fail on Sunday that Friday though.

The above is why I'm slow to update the calclubrallyx site.

Brett was killing it!, as usual. I would have loved to keep on going toe to toe with him, hopefully I'll be back out there sometime soon. But Dave was on top form from the beginning and drove awesome too. Thanks for the props, everyone. In spite of the teething problems getting the Galant to a reliable level, it was fun running with all of you as usual. Jayson put on a great event and I look forward to the rest of the season. There is some serious driving talent being displayed by you guys in M4 and I’m really stoked about the tight competition. Couldn't ask for better.

The old NA Galant decided to act up as soon as I entered the starting grid on Sunday. It would not idle and when it stalled several times, it was a crap shoot just to get it started again. It seems the clutch was progressively falling apart and shifting in to gears (1st and 2nd) became mute by my third and final run. I had to drive the entire course stuck in first gear. What otherwise would have been a fun and fast course became and arduous test of patience as I trolled down the many faster sections bouncing off the rev limiter for what seemed like an eternity. All I could do was try and NAIL all of the technical sections and pray the engine would survive the 7200 RPM barrage. The Galant is now with my Technician to help expedite a clutch change and likely swap out the transmission as a safe measure before Ridgecrest this weekend.

Big thanks to:

Jayson for a great event and the “Fast Run of the Day” In and Out Burger gift card.

Doug Nagy, Chuck Wilson, and Brad Morris for pushing my sorry-ass off the course.

Tom Laeng and friend for dragging the car up on the trailer.

All of the workers and volunteers.

… and all of M4 for being RAD!

Hope to see you guys in Ridgecrest.
