Hello everybody, I have a 2000 OBS that needs some new struts bad. I was going to just buy some replacements from the local autoparts store, but then I started reading about people putting forester struts on imprezas.

My questions are: Would forester struts lift my OBS up any? and is there any forester years that would be a direct bolt on for front and rear?

My cars just a daily driver, I just figured it'd be nice to lift it up a bit!

Thank you for your input!

yes the forester and outback struts will lift your obs a bit make sure you also install the trailing arms so your rear tires are in the right position

if you need the trailing arms i have access to a large surplus of subaru parts and can ship them to you if need be

Ok sounds great, thanks a lot Tweak! I'll most definitely need the trailing arms, but do you know what year forester or outback would be a best fit for my 2000 obs? I hope theres a year that has the same bolt pattern on the top, so I don't have to do any drilling.

I found some new KYB Gr-2 struts for 98-02 Forester on ebay, for $277 which seems like a decent deal. thoughts?

don't know much about the GR-2s but i know they won't give you additional lift where as the forester struts will. if you don't want additional lift, go either stock replacement, the GR-2s or KYB AGXs. that's what's on my 2000 OBS. the AGXs are actually cheaper than stock replacements too.

I just figured if those gr2s were specifically for forester, then they would be the same size as the stock replacements! So if I buy some at like autozone for a forester, they wouldn't be the same as the stock replacement? I'm confused!

Thanks though!

All right

So the GR-2's are just the models of shocks for the brand KYB. They fit any subaru, if you bought the ebay listing for forester GR-2's, those would lift your car 3-4 inches. If you bought impreza GR-2's, you'd get stock height shocks. You would need new/used springs for foresters if you buy fozzy GR-2's

I have been looking into the matter for the past couple months, and just settled on Subtle Solutions 1'' lift kit for imprezas. I also am replacing all my shocks later this spring, but didn't think i was ready for the dramatic lift from fozzy struts. It will cost more, the lift kit plus new struts, but I will get some more clearance from new struts alone plus the kit, keeping the same driving characteristics from only an inch or two of lift.

If in the future i wanted to go extreme and get trailing arms, fozzy shocks, bigger tires, i will have a good set of almost new struts and a lift kit to either sell or put on other stuff

I hope this rant was helpful
