I tried to find nice a gauge pod for 09 WRX and could not find the one I like, so I decided to make my own one. I don’t have much done yet but I will be updating thread every time I’ve done something new. So here we go. Enjoy

^^^Here i tried to make a model out of clay, and then i thought i would wrap it with fiberglass and so on. But I didn't like the design, and it's kinda hard to change shape once clay is hard.

^^^here is another pic of it.

Plans change and the idea with clay is set aside. I will make a bottom of a gauge pod first. And then i will be playing with some tie wire and fabric.

Alright, on the pictures above you could see i did only one layer of fiberglass sheet. That's how you don't do it. I had to do it again. this time i did three layer. Now it's nice and sturdy and not as flexible as the one with 1 layer.

Sorry everybody for not updating thread. I had a lot of stuff going on, so I had no time to work on my projects. I will also soon make a thread on how to make you door handles light up when you unlock your car. Pictures will be included. I know it's not really a DI way to go but maybe someday someone would want to do something like that.

Just to add a note to your Post#4, If you try the single layer it will bite you in the ass down the road. You want the base layer as structural as you can make it. It might not seem important as you will never see it, but if you are going where I think you are with this, with only one layer base, as you build up to your final shape and glass to that, it will pull up your base layer as the glass shrinks slightly when it sets and then the base won't sit flush with the dash anymore. Also as you mentioned it's flexible with only one layer, so when you pull it out to work on the rest it could twist or distort.

3 or more layers with some nice heavy matting is a great start..

Not as much a problem in these smaller complex shapes but if you ever try and do a flat door panel you'll see why....

Great work, looking forward to seeing the rest. Doing the same right now for my pass. side airbag void / terratrip mount... [http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18453]
