Alright, so I may have my hands on a 99RS soon. The engine is dead but the rest of the car has 60k on it.

I was looking around and have seen 2.2 "stroker" engine builds that bore out the 2.0 in a WRX. My question is, would a 2.2t closed deck block match the pistons and heads of a 2.0 WRX motor?

Will the internals that they sell with these kits work in a 2.2 closed engine?

From the builds that I read with a 2.2 closed deck using the 2.0 heads, they work on the ODBII ECU. Does this make sense? I don't know enough about the ODBI vs ODBII wiring.

Am I correct to assume that if you use the heads from a 2.0 it basically makes the 2.2t a ODBII engine, or am I not understanding this correctly?

I understand I will need a major tune to get this to work, but my thought was 2.2 closed deck with 2.0 heads, internals from the "stroker" kit, P+P turbo (don't know what to use yet but want really fast spool), and ecu management.

I want to build the engine to take a good deal of HP but will want it tuned around 250-300 so that I can keep using the RS transmission for some time (I know its pushing it, but I will be babying it for a while) until I can find a 4.44 gear box or something. I will keep most everything else stock until I can do it right as well.

Please let me know what you guys think and correct me if I am wrong in thinking this.

bump. Still considering this but have not found someone who knows if can be done or not.
