I was thinking about running in the New York Rally at all three events in the next couple years. I have a 05 Impreza and was wondering what I had to do to it to get it race ready but to keep it in the production class?

This is a very general question...

Id say check out Rally America/Rally Car and Nasa Rallysport's rulebooks first.
Also do searches on this site and one Specialstage.com for info. This question has been asked many times and answered very well.

As a general answer you'll need a cage, 2 race seats, full racing safety gear, stock susp. wont last one gravel event so thats up to you, skid plates are also up to you, proper tires for the event, etc etc etc.

RA rules would be a great place to start, but also look at the USRC rulebook, since RNY are USRC events it would behoove you to know those rules. However, don't get bogged down in rules, find a scrutineer in your area and partner up with them for personal advice on car preparation. You can't hope to get everything off the internet. Phone calls and in person interaction are invaluable.

Who will be doing the cage and other prep work?

Given that info, the best I can say is to read the rule books and go through a bunch of photos of rally cars, including builds here to understand the level of preparation required. You will see lots of stuff that is done that is not REQUIRED to be on stage, but is a good idea.

Here is a thread for reference, note this is about a truck, but the same applies to a car.
