So its official, Soltek Light Systems (http://www.bajadesigns.com/2005%20Web%20Site/soltekbars.htm) (by baja designs) is an official sponsor of DirtyImpreza.com the DirtyImpreza Project Rally RS.

These badboys arrived over thanksgiving and should really help illuminate things at night. Four 4" Fuego (https://www.bajadesigns.com/net/mainframe2.aspx?login=YES&category=TRKBGY) HID driving lights, and 2 Fuego (https://www.bajadesigns.com/net/mainframe2.aspx?login=YES&category=TRKBGY) 4" HID wide cornering lights for peripherial lighting while sliding sideways. We are very excited to have Soltek Light Systems helping us out with our project car. Ill have more pictures of the products up soon! Lightbar construction should begin in a couple of weeks.

OK! heres the product shots :guitarist:

On the left is the Fuego HID with Driving lens pattern. On the right is the Fuego HID with Wide Cornering lens have a 42 degree spread. The wide cornering lens lights are going to be mounted in the stock GC foglight location so that they can be far out toward the sides of the car. They come with a beefy mounting bolt and lock nuts (stainless), and an aluminum quick adjustment knob. You can get them with black, blue, or red housing rings to match your car, bike, atv, sandrail, whatever...

Each light w/ internal ballast only weighs 2lbs 3oz.

I still have to figure out the wiring, but it looks pretty simple. Each light will draw about 10amps, they come with the female side of the harness already connected through the housing. The male side is provided, you just need to find a suitable powersource to connect it to (ill probably have to get a relay or something, im a n00b when it comes to the electrical stuff). We hooked one up to the battery just to see how bright they are, lets just say, they're pretty sick

Dude aaron those are F'ing badass. I can't wait to see them on the car.

The 500's i have came with a relay. I ran a lead to my brights, so when I turn on my brights, the relay flips and connects a circuit between the battery and the lights.

Pretty much anything on the front end of the car is going to be at risk. Hood pods will minimize this, but were going to try our luck with some front end protection underneath.

I say lights pods down the road FTW!

Many people are surprised when they find out that the ballast is mounted internally even on our 4" Fuego! We use the latest Osram Sylvania Gen. 5 ballast which is small and lightweight enough to allow the ballast to be mounted internally and installation is a simple 2 wire hook-up using supplied weatherpack connectors. The sealed housing also serves to protect the ballast from the elements. No more messy mounting of external ballasts!

Aaron - that install looks incredibly clean and mounting the wide cornering in the fog position is the ideal placement for them. I can't wait until you power them up, that is some serious lighting. Also, with the clear rock guards on the lights you will be surprised what they can survive!

I'm no expert but ballast is the eletronics that controls the HID's...

If you look under the hood of an STi' its that funky box up by the passenger side headlight with all those hardwires coming out.

And yes, the rockguards look great. I have them on already just for good measure. They look like they can take quite the beating :)

The ballast is what ignites the light, I believe, and maintains the correct current.

kreitz3

You sirs, are correct. The ballast controls the light.
