I have been planning on purchasing upgraded motor mounts for some time now. I was going to get the Group N mounts that Subaru offers. While doing some research, I came across RalliSpec.com ... On there online catalog ( http://www.rallispec.com/prod_mount.htm ) I noticed something that made me scratch me head. STi offers TWO different Group N mounts!

RST-4100 STi Group N Engine Mount Set $82.00

RST-4105 STi Competition Engine Mount Set $467

I started to question this, so I dropped a email to RalliSpec Technical Assistance. Here is the email I sent them and there reply:

"I was browsing your site and noticed something that caught my eye. I noticed that you list two different type of mounts. One being the "STi Heavy Duty" and the others being "STi Competition."

I was wondering what the difference was between:

RST-4100 STi Group N Engine Mount Set $82.00
and
RST-4106 Replacement Engine Mount Rubber $140

I have had my eye on upgraded motor mounts for some time now. I rallycross my 2005 WRX wagon, and hate the slop the motor has. I was under the assumption that the "Group N" mounts were the only mounts Subaru had to offer, and the going cost on them is $140 (just for reference http://scoobytuner.com/products/?vApplicationID=3&sfID1=4&sfID2=110&productID=27 ) "

Thanks!
Ryan

There Reply:

"Ryan, There are two types of “Group N” mounts available from STI now.

RST-4100 is the typical mount previously referred to as “Group N” mount and what is still generally referred to as “Group N” engine mounts by other dealers here in the US. RST-4105 (RST-4106 is a replacement part to RST-4105) is the latest mount designed around the new Group N regulations put forth in ’06 that allow the engine mount design to be altered provided it is specially homologated. If you check the picture you will see the mounts have a different shape to them. There is very little rubber in these mounts (nearly all steel) so they are quite a bit stronger. We buy all of our STI products from Japan. Many US dealers buy their STI parts through the local dealers and Subaru of America sets their own pricing. We set our own pricing based on actual cost from Japan which is why some of our prices are significantly different. But if you’d like to buy the STI engine mount set (RST-4100) for $140 I won’t turn it down. ;) "

Dave Rallispec

So, Group N has a insanely priced motor mount set at almost $470 !!!! Yikes! Also, you now don't have to pay $140 for the typical Group N mounts! $82.00 sounds good to me!

I have always wanted to try the Cusco Engine Mounts, I am planning on getting them for the street car. (I like how the Subaru Group-N mounts give in a front impact doing less damage to the engine.

I think I need to pick these up along with some Group N (if they make them) tranny mounts.

I already have the Group N trans mount, cross member bushings and pitch stop. I have been putting off the motor mounts because they were $140 bucks. Now, at $82 bucks I might just have to buy them! So far I am extremely happy with every Group N mount that I have.

Cusco mounts are cool, just not cheap! And I could never find them motor mounts separate. Also not sure on how stiff I want things to be. The car already shakes and vibrates like a race car as it is. Oh, also Group N just screams rally!

I run everything except the crossmember bushings. They make a huge difference. I wasn't real impressed with the STi dogbone though. It seems to move more than the stock one. Just my opinion though.

STI Dogbone = 93-96 Dogbone

Yes it does! I bought a Sti one for my 1995 and it was the same.

I would get an aluminum one from someone else, but I like how the plastic ones break in a crash.

I only have if because it was $30. Kartboy has a nice looking one, as do a few other people out there
