Just a quickie ---
Going to be buying a WRX when I get back to Oahu and I'm looking for opinions on what suspension upgrades I should get (coilovers, rods, arms). I'm looking to lift it about 2-3" above stock. This will be my DD/WW [daily driver/weekend warrior] so I wan't something that will treat me right in the dirt/gravel and also hold some comfort on the streets. Also, a recommendation on cheap wheels & tires for the dirt would be appreciated.

Howzit Wunder. I am new to this site but saw your post. Since RallyX just started on Oahu (2 races so far) I have been working on a 03 WRX. I just bought some King Springs which raised the car from Primitive. WRX's are a bit pricey here so if you can buy one in the mainland and have the military ship it back for you, that might be the way to go. When are you planning to be back?

Hey there,
I actually was able to pull a deal thru for an 02 wrx for only $5500! It'll be in Hawaii mid-january. Don't get back for a month or two. I've bought a stage 2 package for a cheap price also. I'm probably not going to be taking it in the dirt as much as I planned though - don't really have the time & money to keep up with the maintenance that can and will eventually come my way.

Hey devil, and happy belated birthday. Must be nice to be stationed in Hawaii. Be careful out there in the sandbox, it's gotten worse since I was out there. 5500 is a great deal on the car. I cant reccomend you anything since I have an '05 STi, but 1" spacer lift kits are available from both subtle solutions and jackson rally for about 220. Then you can get king springs from get-primitive. They are a king spring vendor and will custom order the springs. They're essentially stock spring rates with more spring so you can get a lift out of it. If you're looking for that 2-3 inch over stock with just suspension then you should be ok doing a combination of that, but remember that you loose cornering (in general) on the tarmac due to a higher COG and roll center. See how you like it as a DD how it is before you decide to lift it. And you'd be surprised at how much fun these cars are in the dirt and mud. I was really apprehensive to take mine and get it dirty, but I did then realized it was a suby and they were made for this stuff.
Come back safe,
