Hello, winter is going to be here soon and i need to know the tallest tire i can run on stock 04 STi bbs wheels (17X7.5).

Unfortunately IWSTI and Nasioc are not the places for me to get answers on this type of a question.

I'll be running Nokain Hakka 5's (wanted the 7's but they are not in NA with a decent size for 17's until 2011 so i guess next year)

I will be running at least a 1" subtle solutions/jackson rally lift and maybe their 2" which was supposed to be out already but they are really backed up on production. My TiC SST coils allow me to run nearly stock ride height.

I was thinking 215/55/17 but also have Rally Armor mudflaps and I don't want to shred them with studs.

I guess i could do some measuring but i'd like to know how tall people have gone.

And this is not for competition. I do some tubing behind my STi on a frozen lake with my friends and the snow gets really deep by the end of January.

Typical Canadian snowfall = SUBARU FUN!

I don't mean to thread-jack, but I'm in a similar boat as well.
I'd like to keep the STi wheels on my 05 STi and either run a 1" Jackson lift or some forester springs with OBX adjustable trailing arms.
My question is what size tires would I be able to run without rubbing on the struts issues?
I was thinking maybe 215 or 225/60/17s or would 225 be too wide with that sidewall height?

i think 225/60 is too tall. It is over 1.3" taller than your stock sidewall (if you have a STi). The rears may be fine but the fronts will rub when cornering sharp.

If this will be your winter setup i'd go narrower (and i'm sure it is cause i don't think you'd run forester springs for road racing lol)

I would actually like to go 205 as it is possible but i think it will just look a little stretched and not give my rim lip any protection.

My other option would be to narrow the wheels (from the dude in california) about 1" so i can run a really narrow tire and still clear my brembos. Also i don't think any subie owner has done this so it would kind of be awesome to get some reactions!

I will do some measuring this week and at either height your struts/and my coilovers should not be a factor with these widths.

Yea it looks like the 225/60 will be too tall. Now the 215/60 i'm still curious about.
This would be a setup for winter ski trips, rough city roads and general shenanigans while my KWs get rebuilt. Charleston has some horrible city roads and some fun forest roads by me.
unfortunately my stock sti springs are on our lemons car or i'd run them w/ 1" spacers. So ill likely run forester springs, or possibly some wrx w/ spacers. I'm not really looking to pickup some Kings or GCs right now.

v3's? I'm hoping to run a 215/55 but am still un sure of how the front clearance will be (i need my lift kit installed before i'll be able to tell if there is too much positive caster)

215/60's would be awesome but i really doubt i'll be able to fit that and still turn the wheel without fender modifications and my front bumper. I'd be willing to do both but i'd rather spend that time driving my car!

They're technically RCE Tarmac2's, but i keep calling them KWs...they have to go all the way back there anyways.
I used to cringe everytime I took them and my RE01Rs out on gravel.

Suppose I'll have to go ahead bite on some springs and spacers then see how much room i've got.
