Hello everybody. Its good to see a site like this growing so quickly, I am excited to be joining a site where people enjoy their Subarus (and other vehicles) properly.

My name is Tom, I'm from Highland, in the foothills below Big Bear, not far from Glen Helen so I'm sure some of ya know where it is. I bought my car April of 2005 and am still convinced its the perfect car for my needs. I've been lurking around on this forum for a while and decided I'd might as well join at this point. I've been on Nasioc and a couple other Subaru forums, which none I much care for. In fact, I dislike most of Nasioc for everybody telling everybody to slam their cars, put on pointless mods to be 'different', and so few actually enjoying the cars for what they are. There are several "gurus" on the forum who post great stickies, and I have attempted to add to the helpful information by my posts on seats (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1071917 ; http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1198047).

I recently moved to La Jolla to attend UCSD (Geology Major, so I often drive out to the desert to study and have some off road fun :) ), and I'm enjoying San Diego far more than San Bernardino (Although I love the mountains). I have attended a couple autocross practice events and one Rallyx, Glen Helen 1 event of this year, where I somehow managed to place 1st in SM4 on Kumho MX tires. It was that crazy muddy rainy day haha. I wish I could have gone to more events but until recently, I couldn't get time off work to attend. Now I hope to do more autox and rallyx events down here in San Diego when possible.

My car is pretty stock, and I don't really have any intentions on modifying it further at the moment. I currently have:
Rally Armor Front Skid Plate
Rally Armor Mud Flaps
Perrin Lightweight Crank Pulley
Whiteline Steering Rack Bushings
Cusco 22mm Adjustable RSB
Helix RSB Endlinks
Samco TMIC Hoses
Kumho ASX 205/55/16

I am all about enjoying the car for what it is. The driving experience is what I'm after, not having a cool car that sets me apart from the crowd. I don't claim to be a skilled/fast driver, but I work to improving my skills and technique, also becoming a safer driver on the streets
.
That should be enough for ya all to read for now, heres some random pics:

Hey Tom. I remember at GH1, you were fast man. You're on SoCalEvo too right? Makes as much sense as me being here I suppose :D

Not much in the way of rallycross down in SD since Del Mar was taken off the calendar, but there's plenty of SD folks who drive up to the GH and JV events..

Hey hows it going man. I remember ya. Yeah Socalevo is a fun place to be as a Subaru owner haha. Ive had so many people pushing me with good deals on evos, in the end I'm glad i didn't do it, because now I'm living on student loans! Yeah I've been out of the loop on all the forums for the last 3 or 4 months. Haven't really been around socalevo.net recently (My screen name on all other forums is "Tomasu", but I got tired of that name haha). The whole transfer/moving down to SD has taken over, but now that I'm pretty settled, figured I might jump on here.

Do you mean no more events at Del Mar at all? Was that area affected by the fires very much?

I'm contemplating going to the December Subaru event at Cali Speedway http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1370494 but that's the weekend before finals!

Thank you everybody for the warm welcome :D

Yeah me either.. this place and rallyxportal.com are a better fit if you like the loose stuff. You don't get all that "I could never do that in my car", "what about the paint!", "shame my car is lowered" etc etc stuff :D

No, long before that. All is explained later in this thread:

Welcome to the forums! Thanks for joining up! Unfortunately i didn't make it to GH1 so we didn't get a chance to meet, but went to GH2 this year. A fun event, nice and rocky!

UCSD is an amazing school (im a SDSU alumini) but would be over there all the time hanging out and surfing in La Jolla. Thats gotta be quite the nice scenery change from Highland... i always see the street signs on my drive up to big bear in the winter!

Do you have a dedicated tire set for autox? I've had two sets of Kumho ASX's and they suck in the dry. Get some Falken Azenis (like everyone else in autox) and fall in love with all that grip!

Thanks for posting all the pics!

I don't have the funds for an extra set of wheels with summer tires. And the ASX's were the only decent all seasons I could afford when I needed to replace my bad MX's. The last AutoX I attended was on some crappy Fuzion HRI tires, biggest waste of money ever, but the drifts were fun lol.
