View Full Version : Running 10-12mm spacers in front

So here's the deal. I picked up a set of 15" wheels on the super cheap and I have some rally tires to strap on them, but of course they don't fit over the front brakes on my 04 wrx. I had some spacers laying around and it looks like I can make the front wheels fit with 10-12mm of spacer. So, me being the lazy cheapskate I am, I was thinking of just replacing the front studs with ARP studs and only run spacers in the front. This would only be for rallyx events, then the spacers would be removed and the stock wheels put back on.
What would be issues/advantages?
Possibly shortening the life of my front wheel bearings?
Would it have a big effect on handling? (maybe cause a little more oversteer?)
Thanks in advance.
Or does this have terrible idea written all over it?

advantages? - you can run those cheap wheels
Your wheel bearings lives will be somewhat compromised by rallycrossing already. I daily driver my 04 STi with 20mm spacers for about 80k miles now, replaced the bearings once.
The tires will have a much larger benefit in traction over any drawbacks, especially if you are using the spacers for competitions only.
as for the ARP studs, you can't really get them in without pulling the hub out entirely (I've tried every way possible). I have nismo studs and one OEM length stud with open ended muteki nuts, the muteki has about 1/2 the nut length thread engagement, which I am comfortable with. See how much enagement you have and if you are comfortable with it, then don't change, otherwise the nismo studs will work for you, the ARP won't without bigger headaches.

Well, I was actually pondering getting the Nismo studs as well, but I figured go big or go home. Of course that was when I thought that the ARP and Nismo's both installed on the *fronts* without removing the hub. I guess maybe I'll get the Nismo's instead.
And yes Casey, I will most definitely be getting new lug nuts.
