Ah.. yeah I hadn't really noticed it before but you have a point - visually speaking, apart from the rear bumper, the taillights, the rear fenders, the rear doors, the front fenders, the hood, the front lights, the front bumper, the FMIC, the wider track and the wheels.. they're identical.

Yeah, strictly speaking it _is_ a Lancer, but they pull them off the production line at the shell stage and the magical Evo elves make them into basically a different car, save for the trunk lid, the front doors and some of the interior.

It was a class project according to the description (maybe "recreate a scene from a movie" or something?). Anyway I'd never seen it before and didn't even realise it was a remake. So a) they did a good job and b) I am severely behind the times and c) meow
