Don't do it man! It's really not reliable especially if you like to actually use that power. Just do what you can to it as an N/A and save money for a swap if you really want more juice!

your better off saving your money and swaping, with something such as a ej205 (wrx motor) and youll be plenty happiers and cheap to upgrade.

yea i thought to myself that a badass turbo kit is like 3000 and i could go and pick up a wrx motor for about 4500 and i could even get a sti motor for about 5500 from spauldings they get plenty annually and the fact that the hed hancho at spauldings imports is my best friends dad so he could cut me some slack on the price but other than that what could i do to my motor right now to get some more power?

Lightweight crank pulley and flywheel are a good start. They remove weight where it counts, on the crank. This allows your engine to spin more freely. You can also do headers, lose your cat's and put a catback on to free up the exhaust. Cams are also a good option and can produce some good gains. Then I'd say once you've done that hit up Crawford Performance and get a reflashed ECU from them that corresponds with your mods.

+1 on not doing a $3000 turbo kit on your RS.

If you have good wrenching skills, fab skills, time and prob $1000 you could make it happen with a turbo or supercharger. Just know that you can't go more than 6-7 PSI with a boosted NA motor. Oh yeah, don't forget about engine tuning. You will need a Perfect Power 6 at minimum (and the skill to use it)

If you don't have all those skills, just save up $$$ and do a turbo swap like 99% of subie owners.

Do the swap, the turbo'd motors (WRX / STi) are designed to handle boost. The NA motors will do it for a while but will eventually pop (especially when you start getting greedy for power again and start turning up the boost). Then you're out 3G's when you could have spent a bit more money and done it right in the first place.

What reason did he give? Hasn't been an issue for me.

I have heard a lot of guys get random multiple misfires from both.

Never happened to me. Oh, well. I didn't go with the crazy lightened flywheel just the street light.

my subaru tech told me to stay OEM when it comes to flywheel and crank pully.
You can just buy my 07 swapped Impreza... let me know if you want pics or more info..
