Yes, you know the one...that thing that screams at you if you put anything more than a book on the passengers seat with the belt unbuckled...or won't allow you to enjoy some tunes with the drivers door open, unless you have the ignition in the "on" instead of "acc" position, running most every electronic device in the vehicle draining your battery in no time. The same one that gets pissed if you go over 5mph with your seatbelt unbuckled. :nono

So, I dunno if this has been discovered yet, but I killed the little bastard today and thought I would share a little how-to for those who find this nice little reminder chime as irritating as I did. It is a PERMANANT modification, but I don't see myself regretting this one (I wish I found it the day I bought the car, especially with the courier job I worked) Its easy and only takes about 10 mins.

Its located in the gauge cluster, behind the tach...

1)Drop tilt wheel all the way down
2)Grab the bottom of the gauge to dash trim piece just above the steering columb; 4 clips hold it in place...it pulls straight out.
3)Two screws hold the gauge cluster in place at the top, the bottom is clips that pop straight out
4)Unplug gauge cluster in back
5)Seperate gauge cluster from housing (push the black tabs down, there's about six of them)
6)Remove gauge cluster backing (4 white tabs)

-Now looking at the back of the circuitboard, the beeper clearly stands out (the little black button looking thing) I just VERY CAREFULLY wiggled, jiggled and twisted it until it let loose and poped off. Behold the sound of silence!
Everything re-assembled works as it did before, including the flashing seatbelt lights...just no annoying "beep" accompanying it :headbang:

Just remember, fasten your seatbelt ;)

****Just got to thinking, I did this on my '08 2.5i...WRX and STI may have a different layout behind the cluster?****

Seems strange, but worked for my 2011 OBS. My seatbelt will chime for a few seconds then shut up. I haven't noticed the light on if I put something heavy on the passenger seat.

scoobymods.com Seatbelt chime disable (http://www.scoobymods.com/seatbelt-chime-disable-my-05-t5836.html)

No disassemble required.

Turn key to ON, clip and unclip seatbelt into clasp 20 times within 30 seconds, turn key off, remove key. Turn key to acc or start car- no seatbelt reminder.

I don't think I'd like it permanent cause I like not being able to leave my keys in the ignition when I walk away.

i've never noticed this until now. my car never gives me crap if my seatbelt is not on or the door is open... it just beeps like 3 times and it shuts off on ignition. i guess the previous owner did this. :lick:

this would be a good thing to do if you have a harness installed.

and just for the record i always put my seatbelt on.
