So while looking around on Craigslist for an apartment in Baltimore, I decided to check out the local St. Louis ones for any cheap Impreza's since my friends are looking to get some. However I stumbled across two little beauties.

1988 Subaru RX Turbo: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/car/459291512.html

1987 Subaru Justy GL: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/car/468000343.html

What I want to do ultimatly is to have a beater car to Rally and Rally-X with. Right now my friend Ron and I currently have a 1986 Honda Civic Hatchback with about 70hp and a 1.3L engine that is amazing fun to mess around with on the dirt and gravel roads around here. We bought that car for about $300 and have put maybe about $500 into it (most expensive being replacing the windshield to pass inspection). I am looking to do something similar.

Anyone have any experience with either of these cars? I know how much fun a little 4-banger with barely any HP can be, so the Justy isn't out of the question just because it has litterally no power. However the RX Turbo seems like it would be a fun car, but it is a little more expensive, and seems to have compression problems, and barely runs. Any idea on how much work would be needed to get that car up to speed?

Well, the Justy disappeared.

Anyone have anything to say about the RX Turbo? Good car? How much work do you think it would take to get the car back up to speed?

Stuff a WRX engine into the RX, Uber-sleeper :D

I have no recommendations on the compression problems :/

I would prolly give the guy $500-600 for it though, $900 seems pretty high.

There was an RX at the Antioch 2 rallycross:

It did really well too. Dunno if those guys are on any forums or whatever, but it appears to be a decent base for a fun rallycross car.

here are quick guides to low compression and blow-by:
