Ratchet Shifter on Auto trans???

Hey I am wondering if anyone has heard of putting a ratchet shifter on a auto impreza trans? Is it even possible?? does anybody know anything about this? I looked and could not find anything.

i wouldnt suggest a ratchet shifter for rally or rally x lol pretty much drag racing or something without quick downshifts lol. but if your car has a cable shifted trans which i think most if not all subie autos do you could do it. but make sure you get a 4 speed shifter not the 3 speed like they have for old tranies. that could screw with you big time

yeah it would be weird flying into a corner and having to slap it down a couple times haha.

I remember reading that when they first started rallying the GC chassis, they said they used a semi-automatic transmission, I was wondering if possible, you could replicate one with a ratchet setup. obvious nothing to the caliber of a race setup, but maybe similar.

i would think if you could make something like a hydrolicaly paddle shifted auto with a manual valve body it could work out pretty good. but the ratchet shifters really dont down shift easy. it would be worse then just having to go thru all the gears to get to 2nd lol

I love the idea of using a ratchet shifter, but then again I dont race.... yet.

I would love to have one installed in my daily driver, i think it would be an awesome way to personalize it. I'm going to look into it and if i decide to do it, I'll take pics of the process.

A automatic transmission can be made to act like a manual by blocking off some of the oil passages in the valve body, I wouldn't know which ones but I know it can be done, it just wont shift until you move the lever.A good tranny shop should be able to do it.

Did subaru make a 5 speed auto, or just 4 speeds?

Been doing more research on this. I think I may do it on my LX. I will post my build on here or on my journal for the LX. I think Subaru did make a 5 speed auto btw. I found something on it on a website that builds custom automatics and parts for subarus.
