i didnt really know where this should go. its not about an impreza or even a subie lol so here goes.

before i got my subie i was working my my 75 plymouth scamp and was always on forabodiesonly.com. so between that and this site i have been thinking about geting like an early 60s plymouth valiant or possibly dart or signet. one of the really light early muscle cars they are cheap and strong. it would be for rallyx for now and stage rally l8r. i would use my legacy but im probably selling it soon. the issues i see with a valiant is it is solid rear axel with leaf springs. what did like the old celicas use out back? and has anyone ever put a subie rear subframe under a non subie? also the front end is old school lol with a steering box not rack and pinion and torsion bars instead of coliover springs. the front end i think would be fine cuz its tough but kinda slow but i could get a quickener. i guess what do you guys think? i know they used to rally these cars back in the original usa rally days but the competition has advanced a lot since then

Solid rear axle isn't really an issue. Mark Utect's Mustang had a live axle and he did fairly well with it. You've gotta have balls of steel for RWD, solid axle though!! Search for some in car stuff of his. He is sideways pretty much down every straightaway.

Solid axle is way better than independent for RWD!

My problem now is that my rear has TOO MUCH bite. The rear tires have so much grip that the front tires just skitter along, unless you pitch it into a slide and then it's really easy to loop. Blame the limited slip for that.

My normal line of thinking is an A-body would be too big, too rare, and too valuable, but it all depends on region. For example:

(yes, those are "Hemi" badges on the hood)

nice!!! what have you done to yours to get the extra traction?
ya the older ones might be more rare then like a cheby or a new car but they are still around and cheap. and they are light actualy. i think what im looking at comes in at about 2500 lbs which is more heavy then my 93 impreza but a lot lighter then a new challenger. especialy if i strip the insides out and leave the slant 6 and possibly turbo it. would a multi link rear suspension be much better then leafs? what did the old import rwd cars run out back?

Well, you have to figure that anything more than about six years old is rare where I live. I haven't seen an A-body Mopar in probably ten-fifteen years, outside of trailer-queen drag vehicles and diaper-rubbers. $10-20k is a bit much to spend for a car that will be cut up for rallycrossing :) I've heard stories about places where cars don't rust, and you don't need to use torches to do auto repair more comprehensive than oil changes and wheel removal, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I actually have at my shop a rust free B-body. My brain says somebody invented time travel :)

My car came stock with a crappy four-link and a roll center too high. In certain corners on pavement it would actually lift the inside rear wheel without any additional body roll, which is quite scary when it happens. Anyway, I went with a three link with an instant center roughly where the front bumper is, and a low Panhard, and now it's awesome. A torque arm (think 3rd-4th gen Camaro) should work nicely too and be simpler to fabricate.

Sounds like a really cool project! Would be super fun to watch.

There is better video of this Falcon at a Pac NW event on a field somewhere but I can't find it. Sort of proof of concept though :)
