That is my goal. I have found tires I want but they are 225/60/17 that should be just at 27.6" tall. Now the stock ride height will clear 27" of tire, so the 1 inch spacer or king springs should clear that without much of an issue. but my worry is the spring mount on the strut. That is somewhere around 24" from the ground. What is the easiest way to know/make the tires clear that?

28in of ground clearance? Thats alot man.
If you are talking about tires..
I have 27in tires on and they barely clear the strut. 28 would be rubbing for me. Maybe its different for the newer Impreza's, but 28in is too big.

well if edmunds is right stock ground clearance is 7"... so 28-7" is a 21" lift.
So you're looking at your wheel wells being about where the top of your rear window is stock. :D

 I mean a 28" tire. The strut is what I am worried about. Would forester struts clear that size tire? I am told they fit.

Trial and error, then come and tell us how it works out. :D My sister has a Forester, and the more I look at it, the more I think the lift would be a lot for your CV joints to handle. Your only choice may be some kind of coilover setup, even then I don't know what your options are.

I honestly don't think its going to happen. I have 26" tall tires right now and they fill the wheel wells up big time. From what i've seen with my car, your going to have some problems fitting the tires on the front of the rear wheel wells, if my tires were any larger
I'm almost 100% positive that would cause some major problems.

Read the middle of page 4, I forgot about this build and the problems.

yeah I am thinking that the biggest as of now that we can get on there is 225/55/17. So that is what I am aiming for.

Bigger isn't necessarily better. Glad I'm starting to see that myself. These are the tires I want.

Not as a daily setup of course. :D

I would daily those. but the thing I am trying to do is keep my stock wheels. I don't want to pay more then I have too. But I did find some nice 16s I would, if the need comes, put on.
