Pulled my spark plugs [they were one week old] and #4 had oil on it. Lots of it. It's smoking at idle after it's been WOT in boost, so I think I've sunk a ringland. I'll be swapping in my low comp L28ET in a week or two.

lol you're funny...
This car is just as fast as my buddy's RS Camaro with a cammed LT1.
But yes, I'll still be proud even though beating a SBC is not a big deal http://nwamotorsports.forumotion.com/users/2613/11/43/99/smiles/748700.gif
I seriously had a guy at a shop I took my tires to say I should put a 305 in my car. A f***ing 305. :drooling:
If I go SBC it will be a LS3 or a built/cammed LS1. Gen 3 or newer for me, none of your silly Gen 1/2s.
Okay, enough nutswinging from me. I digress!
I found out today I'll be in the SSM class when I start Autocrossing in May. This is the same category as cammed/bolt on Corvettes and miatas. Basically I'll be dead last in the class most likely haha. I might be able to compete with the Vettes if I get my tune straightened out.

I've always thought that the RB20 was a natural motor for a Zcar.
I would think traction would be the biggest problem in an autocross.
Lovin the Minilites, too.

I'm not a fan on motors not offered in cars sold in the states. RB20, RB25/26, turbo SR20 etc etc - all motors I stay away from.
Also, brand "purism" annoys the hell out of me.
Please no advice on motor swaps, I know very well what works in this car and what is fanboi material.
I'm actually going to be swapping in a little-known Mercedes Benz 3.0L straight six with a custom turbo header and big turbo [HX40 or GT40R] mated to a T56. Looking for 400-500 streetable WHP.
They're Rota RBs, not minilites :) check lorenkb's thread for details. 15x8, +4 offset wearing 225/50/15 BF Goodrich tires.

Cool write up on the turboing it. I will probably do a swap if I ever wanna get more power out of it, not sure what yet, I keep thinking LS1...
I got a journal including the Z on SoCalSubies.com - My 2.5RS and 240z (http://www.socalsubies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4346)
And I have the BF G-Sports also, awesome tires.

I swear I've seen that car before. Are you on HybridZ? The car looks good. I'm not a huge fan of the Type 3 bumper, but you've pulled it off nicely.
LSX is great $$$ for power, and the T56 is a fantastic tranny. I'm probably going to stay with the straight six turbo. I'm hoping to build my MB 3.0L NA>T next summer.

Thanks. It's actually a MSA Type 1 Airdam and the rear is custom shaved. I cut all the metal off and had a solid panel welded up there.
Here's what my car looked like when I went to pick it up [lolz]

I also have a 240Z bumper, I don't run it though. The 260Z mounts I have won't fit with my FMIC.

Got my OBX HLSD in, I got the gears flipped and upgraded the washers/bolts.
Details here:
http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?/topic/88099-obx-differential-inspection-and-installation/
Cliffnotes: OBX assembles their HLSD 'backwards' - just flip all of the gears upside-down, and the gears hit the casing under acceleration, not the washers. People were breaking the crappy stock washers because the gears slam into the washers with the stock gear order. After the upgrade, the new washers are thicker and stronger, and the washer stack only gets pressure on it under engine braking.

Sorry, I fail at checking subscribed threads.
I'm not on HybridZ. I love the Type 3 Bumper but hate what most other mods people do with it, I tried to keep it very classic but blended with the modern style of the bumper. I actually got pulled over once by a cop who harassed me about smog and I had to convince the car was 40 years old. He was embarrassed to say the least.
Ya, I love all Zs, even stock these cars have an enjoyable amount of power and torque. :) I look forward to more from you.

I was happy with it N/A, but most of my friends have at least 300WHP cars, so I needed more power.
I have a L28ET sitting at the shop, one of the hydraulic lifters is 'deflated.' I got a set of spares in the mail yesterday, hopefully I can get it installed soon. I can't wait to run an actual spark table. My buddy ran a 13.2 on tiny [195s] 'touring' tires last week with a L28ET swapped S30. I'm shooting for low 13s myself.
The LSD is installed. If you don't have one, you NEED one. The car just feels "right" with it in there. On throttle sweepers feel great, launches are not an issue, powerslides are much smoother and predictable. I wish I'd have done it sooner.
I think the swap, fully installed, cost me $500 after the upgrade kit, and having the shop swap the bearings off the old carrier, as well as setting the backlash, etc.
It's summer, so I'm focusing on the Zed alot. Once it gets cold again, I'm sure my focus will be shifting back towards the Impreza.

Well, I figure I'll just add on to this thread, but the "Flat Black Z" is no more. The shell swap began Friday. I decided to swap the rear ends out of the cars before my new 'trick' front suspension came in.
The new car is also a 78, and as it sits it has Flatty's LSD, polyurethane bushings in the back, tokico red springs, and illumina struts. It has no rear sway bar as I haven't yet made the frame bushings for the 1" bar.
Last night the rear drum brake cylinder exploded on me. I will need to fix that as well.
The steering is way jacked up, I'm waiting on some polyurethane bushings so it can perform DD duty if necessary.
**This will be a 3-step process, 1 of 3 is complete. [Rear end suspension, Front end suspension, Engine swap]**
Step 2 checklist, as of today [2.20.2011]:
* Install new polyurethane steering rack bushings
* Install new rear brake cylinder
* Install new LCAs, T/C rods, swap tokico springs over from Flatty, and install illuminas
* Move to Step 3 when completed.
Here are the pictures from the weekend [Thanks to all who came over for assisting/keeping me motivated].

Rebuilt the L28ET, running T-bolt clamps on 2.5" IC piping and a EVO 8 FMIC. Also have 17x9.5" 4x114.3 Rota RB-Rs with 275/40/17 all around :)

Winter plans involve an 'uber rear end' swap that includes a heavily pre-loaded clutch diff, 300ZX twin turbo CVs, and a rear disk brake swap.
