View Full Version : Help Cooling problem

Can anyone help me. I have replaced the radiator, upper and lower hoses, thermostat, and the fans both work correctly. It still overheats at about a 1/4 mile from the house. Can anyone give me some advice?

Have you done a compression check on the engine?

Is the cars water pump working?

is the cooling system making pressure.

We have not done a compression check.

As far as I know it is still working. It isnt leaking(the pump) and it stays cool(the car) sometimes.

As far as I know yes. When I take the caps off they still let off pressure. It is def. letting out some pressure because I can hear it let it off. It almost sounds like a whimpy BOV.

When you say compression test do you mean litteral TDC pressure of the cylinders or a pressure chect on the cooling system itself?

Have not done a cylinder test yet. The girl is getting stuff from her school for diagonsis. I think she is gonna borrow a presure tester. The heater works magnificantly well.

still broke? mine runs kinda warm... like always below that top white line right be fore the red but never really below the second white line from the bottom... unless it just started. its kinda wierd

Try a new cap. The cap is what controls the pressure in the cooling system. If you have low pressure, then the water is going to want to heat up faster and boil over. Water boils at 212deg. A 15psi cap will raise the boiling point of the water to about 250deg. A 50/50 mix at 15psi should be around a 265deg boiling point.

We have changed the caps. They are 17psi. New development. the heater has stoped being hot. We are taking it to a local subie shop to have them do diagnostics. Hope to be on the road soon.

sounds like you're just really low......when fluid doesn't make it to the heat exchange element, you're runny very low.

Now, you may be running very low because you blew a head gasket and so you're leaking fluid AND not holding pressure....but hopefully its just the former.

I hope not too. We did a block test and it came back negative for combustion in the coolant. We just took it to Forced Air Tech. They are going to diagnose anything that is wrong with it. Hopefully it wont be too bad. Thanks for the help guys!

this may be waaaaaaaaaaayyyy simpler than anyone else has posted, you could simply have an air bubble trapped in the system. Squeeze the upper hose with the rad cap open a few times, see if any bubbles come up.

Let the car run with the cap off for a bit as well, and do it again, see if anything comes up. It may be in the block itself, so the thermostat may need to open in order to get rid of your problem.

They can cause an overheating problem in a very short distance.

not only that, but it could also have a bad tstat... i've had way too many overheating problems mostly caused by simple stuff. a bubble, tstat gone, or if it's not getting hot, the tstat could be stuck in "open" or have something stuck in it keeping it open.
