CRF136n

So I never thought the day would come, but I sold my beloved Jeep Pickup that I have had for 9+ years :-(. Primarily because I was having a hard time justifying owning 2 vehicles, and someone made me an offer I would have been a fool to refuse on it (far more than it was worth); so I let it go.
That said, I otherwise have nothing better to do with my life than ride dirtbikes. I also compete in off-road/desert motorcycle races throughout the northwest, so I needed a “rig” that I can use to haul my bikes, gear and me around…and be able to sleep in it. Seeing as I am so far upside down with my Subaru, I had to keep it (besides, I kinda like it now that I lifted it). Looking into trailer options, I stumbled upon this Interstate 5x10 enclosed with the side door and rear ramp…everything I could want in a trailer. Best of all it has a low 5’ ceiling and a 4” factory lowering kit, to set it closer to the ground than most to reduce wind drag behind the subie. SO, as if this car doesn’t get enough looks already, its quite entertaining to get peoples reactions driving around to and from the riding areas with this setup…it seriously gets everyones attention, lol

The true ‘test’ came last weekend, I competed in an AMA national (took 2nd in class :headbang:).
Driving in the afternoon before I had to go through the signups and the pit areas, lol what a great reaction as everyone just stared with that blank, confused, speachless look on their faces as I drove by . Its definitely a fish out of water, but it worked great for my needs, and got lots of positive feedback from the various racers/spectators that were there…(maybe it’ll start a new trend lol), I think I am about to be known at these events as “the guy with the cut up Subaru that tows that trailer around”; oh well…I'll hold that title I guess

This little 2.5 motor is surprisingly stout. I figure the trailer with my bike, tools, full gas can, etc is around 1,500 lbs. The subie tows this thing anywhere without much struggle. High speed wind drag is the only thing that gets it, above about 65 it starts hating it…thinking about getting one of those aerodynamic roof box carrier things in the attempt to help deflect the wind over the trailer better. Mileage drops to about 19 when I’m towing it, city or highway. Tounge weight is my biggest concern (it doesn’t take much to add up 200lbs), but I have figured out how to perfectly balance the trailer and not exceed 160-170 lbs…even then I reinforced the frame rails of the car just in case.
Anyway, just thought I’d share this insanity to show the abuse these little cars can take...er, I guess we'll see how long my motor/trans will last now (with 83k currently on the clock) cause I know I'll be rackin up those miles with this trailer (could go for that turbo motor now) At least if I do blow one, a selection of low mileage '08 imprezas are beginning to pop up at wrecking yards.
Ya, I'm still waiting to get that damn front bumper made. Appearantly I'm told its in my best interest to wait a little longer cause the price of steel tubing is through the roof, and historically should plummet just before summer. We'll see how much longer I can hold out...I'm getting kinda tired of looking at it the way it is.
