I highly recommend the L&E fast steering column that I have, they have one that's GC8 specific.

I don't know if you can swap out an STI steering rack as well...I have both, and my steering is pretty quick. I got the rack used on NASIOC.

For the rack itself, take a look at Q-Rack. They have an 11:1 rack that is gobs quicker than any OEM Subaru rack.

I can attest to how quick it is. Steering inputs require merely the thought of doing it instead of effort. It is pricey, but well worth the money if you have it to spend.
L&E's column quickener as up2mtns suggested is also a great route to go.
Q rack for sure. sniper1rfa has one and it's absolutely stupendous.

^^ for comparison, the L&E colum plus STI rack is 1.75 turns lock to lock (vs 2.4), and a bit cheaper (assuming you get the STI column used for around $200-250 on nasioc)
now...the Q-Rack WITH L&E column? that would be SICK!@!!

How well does the power steering system keep up with either of these choices?

QRack says they have not had any issues with pumps failing. As an added bit of safety for the system, a power steering fluid cooler is recommended.

i just wish subaru put quick steering in any impreza that was sold in the US. STi RA/Spec C racks are soooooooooooooooooo good.

If you search impreza steering mod on youtube. Theres. Guys who talks through a great DIY steering mod where he cuts an inch off the knuckle to create a tighter pivet piont. Although it consists of a little cutting andwelding im sure its alot cheaper.
