I think seats have a manufactored Date , not an experation sticker .... ? and I don't know that either organization require you to replace your seats every X amount of years, your belts on the other hand have an experation "sticker' if you will. :)
and ya that rally car looks gently loved.... :)

Thats good to know... the sticker is a little beat up and hard to read
Rob your gonna love this beast when you get home... oh yeah one other thing I would suggest is a quick release steering wheel its a pain in the ass fitting your leg through the wheel and the door bar:shocked:...

Nice, I suggest not spending any more money than is required to sort out the misfire before getting it out on stage. None of that other stuff is important at all, even the axle boot, just buy a couple of spare axles and keep them handy.
Congratulations.

that massive gaping hole in the exaust can be causeing the a "miss fire like" problem... one the pics don't show and I wish I wouldve taken the pic of it but forgot to was the part of the I wanna say mid pipe/front pipe regardless of pipe it is only half way connected at the flange... personally I would do the exaust first to see if putting some back pressure or even the release of pressure would correct it... the pic of the exaust doesn't really show the damage to it as I had hoped... the pipe is smashed cut creased funneld just plain out ****ed up... I didn't have it lifted up so I really couldn't get back in there to look at it... one other thing the car was almost empty on gas and has been sitting for a few months now without being turned till yesturday... so it may not be a plug/wire/coil issue... it could be something as simple as old vaporing gas running through lines (if that makes sense) but your right solving the "missfire" issue is very important to get fixed before it is put on stage or even played with more than a mile from the house... cv shafts are cheap and a good thing to have laying around... just like lateral links and struts

cool.
You had said its a custom cages uk kit? did someone add door bar gussets and a sill bar to the kit? did it come with the homologation papers? modifying a FIA kit is kind of a no no.
also, no one in the US is currently enforcing seat expiration.

as far as helping rob out I haven't seen any paper work on it yet... im sure its documented... and yeah I checked it to that about seat expiration... but the sticker on the side of seat is in fact the inspection/compleation date that the seat was inspected for prior to distribution and installation... not an expiration sticker...

the reason I ask is, although the cage is safe, if it is a custom cages uk kit like mine, the certification spec is 2.03mm (.08") (CDS) for the main hoop thickness and less for other parts of the cage. its close but not quite the .095" required.
I don't think there is an issue with this car since it has a logbook and everything just bringing it up for others. Maybe I'm wrong? I have heard or have been told directly by good rally shops that they are using CCuk kits as a base and then modifying as needed.

Here is a picture of the sticker on the cage. It is a CCuk kit I'm not sure what they did to the cage when installing it to make it work with RA rules. The next time I talk to the original owner I will ask about the cage.

you shoulda seen the smile on my face
most of the noise you hear is from foot long hole in the exaust and the pipe being half ass held to the header... get a new exaust on it and it probably wont be as loud... im not gonna lie I was trying to set of some car alarms though... and your neighbors were looking at me like i was crazy

They should have done nothing to the cage to make it work with RA since they recognize homologated cages straight up. That cage is the same model as mine and was probably put in around the same time. I feel like a Debbie Downer but from the pictures the builder definitely took some liberties when installing the kit (harness bar location). If a scrutineer from RA has signed off on it then it should be cool but NASA or CARS might not like it. but I am not a scrutineer so I can not really say.
otherwise it's sweet if not a little on the loud side, it also has a cool ring tone.

Well it has been Rallied at Rally Colorado in 2008 and 2009 so it works with them. I don't know if I will ever run a NASA or CARS Rally unless there are some out in the Mountain, Center, and West coast area. So I guess I will find out when that time comes if NASA or CARS accepts it. Thanks for the concern though.

Right now sorting out all the things that I need to fix.
-New P/S front fender
-New exhaust
-New gaskets all over the engine
-New heads with Delta 2000 grind cams
-New P/S front Axle
-All Fluids replaced as well
All that should get me prepare for the rest of this season when I get home. I'm hoping to run my first Stage Rally at Prescott, AZ Oct 1-2. When I get home in about a month or 2 I will run Rally Cross and Auto X to give me a feel for the car and get back in the groove of things. I hope to have the cash to make it to Prescott though.

Looks good. Those hangers will do fine, just drill some holes in the mounting tubes so you can pin them so they can't slide out of the rubber. i bet it sounds just about right. Try it with your helmet and intercom on and loose gravel spraying everywhere. :)

the exhaust set up is header back...
it goes flange... flex pipe 2.5in pipe glass pack (resonator) 2.5 in pipe... cat (yes in place of muffler)... 90 degree 2.5in pipe right off of cat (supposed to help with DB dispersing on the ground) and its all custom and nicely tucked thanks to the guys at Buds Muffdiver...they loved the car BTW so they threw on a chrome tip for free... lol

Thanks man I appreciate all the help I mean you are my mechanic/co-driver.
Also if you noticed in the clip the big white cloud of smoke means it's burning oil so we may need to get another block set up soon. I would say start looking for at least a short block or even a long block out of any 2.5 RS N/A motor to Frankenstein that ****.

It's not a problem... I did sign up for this ya know... I noticed the smoke last night when I took it out for the clip... At least its not black yet... Also your wife and I got some of the stickers off... I'm really digging the Caution Cone Orange... we should paint the rims black and I think it would really set it off... lol... I'll get to looking for a new motor... I'm sure I can get another one for a pretty good deal... And if we can get one soon enough we maybe able to have two motors for it... which could be a good idea in any case... ill see about getting a good deal on another set of cams

Even if you post them I won't have anywhere to view them. So it won't matter. I would prefer to see it in person any way. I hope it turns out the way we like it since it won't get any more paint for a long time to come.
Also what were you talking about bondo mess on the D/S? just curious.
I can't wait to drive this bad boy to work I wish I could lock my doors since someone decided to paint over the locking mechinisms :unamused:. You beter tell Maaco not to paint over them as well. Also make sure they don't paint the roof scoop closed. It would be rather upsetting.

The pictures will be posted after I get home and see it in person. Give me about 36-48 hours from the time of this post and I will personally post the pictures up myself.
Now all we need to do is the inner tie rod and a new engine and everything should be sorted out. As long as no other issues pop up in the mean time.

Oh yeah here is a little video from our Rally X last year the car is in the video.

The engine going in it is a 99 2.5L N/A motor still debating on if I want to use my set of Delta 2000 grind cam heads.

Talk about a forgotten journal and a forgotten car. Work is slamming me taking my weekends where I want to work on the car. I am posting this from work right now.
I still didn't grab that hoist from my buddy so there is no progress. I still don't have the cash to replace the windshield.
I'm trying to sell some parts so I can get the cash to get this car up and running and out on course. Most of what I want to do will have to wait until I get my tax return.
Look for updates on this sometime early 2012 unless I somehow get more money sooner.

Alright I made progress today.
-I borrowed an engine hoist, and engine stand
-I started to get the good engine prepped to yank
Tomorrow will be busy with prepping the good engine for Delta cam heads. I will get the rally car's engine prepped for yanking out. Sunday I should have the rally car's engine out and the new engine ready to drop in. I may need to swap cross members as well.
After I get the good rear sub frame off the donor car and the bad one off the rally car I shouldn't need to mess with maintenance **** for a little bit on the rally car.
I'm selling parts from the donor car to make some cash for tools and a new windshield for the rally car.
If I can work fast enough I may be attending a Rally X before the season is over.

I might be rewiring almost the entire car with the wiring harness from the donor car (my old RS). I know I need to replace the radiator and would like to do the fans and use the MAF from the old RS as well. Using the MAF with the SPT intake I have I need to modify the MAF housing and use a silicone piece to attach it.

Oh yeah update I got the flywheel clutch and pressure plate on tonight and attached the motor mounts the engine is ready to drop back in only problem I'm having is I want to swap the 00 RS wiring harness and ECU for the 99 RS wiring and ECU. This may take a minute and hopefully I can get the wiring done this weekend even though I need to figure out the rear located battery and a few other mismatched wired things.

I'm having a funky idle but I need to keep running it to get all the old fuel out. I will try and get a video tomorrow of the weird idle. Still waiting on funds for the windshield.
