Unfortunately, the RA skid plate didn't hold up to well:

perhaps if it had the upturn in the front like the GD plates it would have done a little better!

Wow, I'm surprised the bolts didn't just pull through the crossmember!

Quite a hit!
D-The GD plates have the bend upwards because of the bumper design, the GC plates tuck and continue under the bumper (not exposing the lip )
as shown:

it looks like you may have caught the lip one the hit. As always the plate is there to protect and take the brunt of the damage (which looks like it did) these types of situations.

yeah that first picture is awesome! Sorry to hear about your skidplate man, i guess if you hit it just right there is always the possibility of damaging it.

On the car pictured, there is a Version 6 lip. If that lip isn't there, the plate is actually quite exposed to the front. You could see the front edge of the plate on my car (no lip) if you were standing in front of it. There is no bumper for it to "tuck under".

you need to have the front edge of the plate turned up. When I ordered mine from primitive i requested a 1" front lip and they did it at no extra cost. it works AMAZING. having that little turn up in the front is enough so it slides in between teh bumper cover and the lower support so nothign will grab it.
this is the only pic i have handy. i will take some more soon.

my RA plate doesn't even reach the lip on my nose. it never quite sat right with me. now, i see why!

I think I am definetly going to go with a Primitive plate if I decide to get another one! I was looking on their website, and it looks like the GC plate comes with the upturned lip now.

Are you referring to the "bumper skin" that Rally Armor wants you to tuck the plate under?

yes

I had no idea it was supposed to be under there in the first place, so I never though to look at the fitment before my plate got bent.

i only realized it after i first installed it. i couldn't see why they'd leave a gap in between the front of the plate and the lip of the bumper. what happens is every time contact is made, you get grass/dirt/mud etc. jammed in the lil' space between the front of the plate the the underside of the bumper skin. i definitely didn't think what happened here was feasible.

Wow. looks like the grade of alum. used is not quite adequate.....IMO
All plates should come with a return (bend) on the front lip though.

Yeah this was a primitive skid plate that a local club member owned. he went through a big puddle on teh 1st duluth trip. one of the last cars through. he just happened to tap the brakes and nose down in the middle of it and hit the surprise rock. (at about 40mph)
Here are the pics. this is the thinner of the primitive plates w/o a front lip.

He had them add the lip to his next plate, this is what inspired me to a.) get a skid plate and b.) put a lip on it.
