OK so, I never got around to racing my LGT. It's so clean and mechanincally perfect...when I ran my first rallycross, I saw how much abuse the car takes. I decided to dole that punishment out to my dad's beater SE-R instead.
----
We raced our second RallyCross this past Sunday.
The first time we raced (back in Sept.), it rained pretty good to get the ground moist. We didn't know it at the time, but the mud was actually a cushion on the ground and that was a good thing.
This time around was the real deal. Dust everywhere. The harsh surface of dry dirt further expose and dug up more large rocks as the racing continued. We smashed a corner light. It was especially to rough for my ghetto-fab in-camera mount (you'll see).
It was still a hoot though. The hardest part about RallyCross (vs. HPDE or Autocross) is the track is so large, so varied, and continuously changing, it's more difficult to remember a driving line, or come up with a strategy. Plus the whole time it sounds like you lugnuts are loose, or your hubs are loose, or your wheels bearings are loose, or your fillings are coming out.
This time out the WRX got fastest time of the day. There was also a Citroen Ice Racer out there that Jeff Lane (of Lanee Motor Museum) brought to race.
The guy driving the red GC Impreza was fast, as well as the Neon and Escort.
I managed to beat everyone in my class for first! (Me and my dad were the only ones in our class )
I spent most of the day driving, with videotaping as an afterthought, so the footage isn't great. And the in-camera mount failed after the first turn of my run.
My dad and I ran a white 93 Sentra SE-R. Its him driving in the videos.
