I've been trying to research my options and decide on something to get a 1-2" lift and a bit softer ride out of my wrx to make it more useful for daily driving with trips out to the farm.

had some good info in it but I am left a little bit confused.
What will actually accomplish my goals? JR 1" spacer and outback strut/springs (1"+1"=2")? Forester xt strut/spring (2"-3" at once)?
Just a strut/spring swap would be cheaper but I am also confused as to what years swap around (tophat issues?)
I will also be looking at putting some grabber tires if that makes a difference.
Any help is much appreciated.

Well stock springs(wrx springs) and the Jackson Rally Spacers will defiantly give you enough room to fit Grabbers. If you swapped forester struts on, it would raise a whole lot more(2-3in), which means more body roll and theres some alignment issue. The Grabbers are an excellent DD tire. They wear very well, low road noise, and they still rip offroad.
If you went the spacers route I would also get some Paranoid Fabrication spacers, 1/4in the front and 1/2in the back to even out any saggy butt you might have. They are really cheap, $25 for the rear, and you can just stack them on the JR Spacers.

I'm not overly concerned about the body roll as that is kinda what I want. More independent/more travel.
Would forester springs/struts along get me 1-2" lift?
The double spacer idea doesn't seem too bad but I would like to get more travel if possible.
if the information in this thread ( http://www.dirtyimpreza.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14063 ) pertains to the 03 then mods can merge/delete my thread. I was under the impression that the tophats changed in 04 but I am still confused if that is true or not.
