so onto my next project when i can get some time...
ive seen the light bars that come up over the front mouth of the impreza like
https://rallyinnovations.com/uploads/products/31_2004_light_bar_front.jpg
i want to do this
http://www.9one9racing.com/full.jpg lousy photoshop.
BTW i was suppose to edit the lights out. so ignore the lights.
i wanted to make something more a full face instead of just over the front. but was curious where some good mounting locations would be. ive got the bottom locations down, i can just mount to where my skid plate mounts.
i figured i could just use tabs and go under the grill area so somewhere on the radiator support.
would it be too heavy? anyone done one like this? i want to cover more of the sides of the bumper as well, but not too far so i dont hit cones on purpose. we do some play days and there are more than cones out there (tires/tree limps)

do it!
ive been thinking about a bar like this for quite a long time.
i dont think it will be too heavy if you mount it to the lower radiator support and into the bumper beam.

i agree we need some kewl shtuff like this for our cars
I've been planing to do very much the same thing. I already have the metal 1'1/4 by 1/16 wall tube, actually very light, I just can't decide what design to go with I was thinking ether just like what you have in that pic or this,
even crapyer paint editing.

i'd say go with the top one, because i still have the stock foglights to worry about hahaha,
but the one on the white GC looks great too!

I had a rally innovations light bar on my 99 RS. I loved that thing until I destroyed it. It definitely took the majority of the impact off my front bumper but what are you trying to do with a full front "animal" guard? It looks intriguing what you are doing there.

I agree that the front may take more abuse. But during practice days I've nicked my share of tires/tree limbs.
This would only be used to rallyx days. Nothing for daily driving.

I would be very hesitant to tie this into the radiator core support. The core support on our cars is downright flimsy. If you plan on having this bar as actual protection as opposed to just for show, you need to look into tying the bar into the bumper beam/frame rails.

Yah I was looking into the bumper beam but I havnt looked well enough to see If I can mount it without hacking up the bumper
my plan was to have the upper mounts on the bumper beam, from what I saw there should be enough room there to weld some tabs to with out having to mod the bumper.
wait, is this a lightbar/brush bar, or a cattle pusher???

i can attest to the flimsyness of the radiator shiit
So last week I got my lightbar/brush guard built, turned out a lot better than I was expecting Its bolted into the bumper beam and my custom subframe I had built. Its really not that heavy maybe 10 pounds at most.

anyone have pics of the car without the bumper on? if you can simply weld it to the bumper mounts then it would not be too bad.
but ive also seen them minus the bar mounted to the license plate mount. but i like the bar. weld to bumper mounts or frame rails?
Well heres some more info on my light bar, sorry this took awhile I've been busy, so the subframe I mentioned is bolted across the lower rad support and then ties into the crossmember I have a 02 wrx crossmember that has mounting points on it for the stock 02 to 07 subframe. The light bar is then bolted to this subframe at 4 points these are the lower mounting points I then wielded to mounting points on my bumper beam and these are the upper mounting points.
Everything is securely bolted to a strong metal point on the car nothing is attached to the bumper skin. Id feel comfortable lifting the car by the light bar, and in fact I sort of did that last night when I high centered across a rut and the front end was sitting on the bar. Also the whole thing can be removed in about 5 mins and you would never know it was there.
As far as building them to sell that would be hard unless you also had my custom subframe and modified bumper beam and I really don't have the capability to mas produce them.
heres some more pics to better help you understand how its mounted.
The blue is the subframe the black is the light bar.
