Well I have a 96 outback 2.2l maunal and the Cruise lever doesn't seem to work. The indicator light on the dash works fine but when i Try to set it, it doesn't work. I have already checked the brake lights and reset the ECU now i do have a parking light that is out but(could this be it?) Also any ideas on how to mount a cup holder would be awesome (i don't have any) or if there is any kits.

woah, those are two very random questions together!

About the cruise control, thats strange that the cruise light comes on but it doesnt hold the gas down. Im not sure what causes that. Did you check all the fuses?

As for cupholders, i know they have some kits at pepboys or whatever, but i dont think theyre very good.

Yeah all of the fuses are good.

I figured they were if the cruise light is coming on...

just to clarify the button that says cruise lights up when i press it and stays on. there is not gauge lights that turn on (unsure if there is supposed to be one) but no lever action is working

look on the pedal supports (the bar that the pedal surface is mounted to) there should be two small plastic discs mounted onto those, look where the red circles are. well, there are two buttons that depress when the pedals are out all the way, this is the only way for the cruise control to work. when there is nothing there, the button CONVENIENTLY goes right through the hole the disc mounts to. i just double-sided taped a couple of pennies onto mine and it worked perfect. when i bought my car i had the same exact problem...after a TON of research, i found this info. GOOD LUCK!

as for the cup-holder...just buy one of those cup holders that wedges in between the window glass and the molding...just screw it into where ever you want your cup! if you're worried about damaging your interior, pick up a used piece from somebody parting out their GC8.

I have a 96 outback 2.2 5 speed and I DO have a cup holder. There is a slim piece of trim below the ac and above the radio with a rectangular button in the middle. Its a push in and pop out style.

When the cruise control is on, if you press either the brake or clutch the cruise will disengage. This may be something to look into. The pedals have sensors that will disengage the cruise.

I was adjusting the clutch pedal yesterday and noticed that there was an female plug end connected to it. There was a male plug dangling above it with a u-shaped piece of metal (paper clip?) plugged into it. I suspect that this was rigging one of the cruise control sensors. I undid the rigging. Haven't checked to see if the cruise works yet.

Just noticed in another of your posts that you have an Impreza OBS, not a Legacy OB. Well, my 97 Impreza OBS also has a cupholder (same place as 96 Leggy OB). It's possible that Subaru changed the dash/console from 96 to 97 in the Imprezas though.

It should definitely have a cup holder, where Sub-T said. A lot of people just don't realize it's there.

Yea my OBS has it in the same spot... rather a pain b/c it covers the stereo once its pulled out.
