Since I'm turning up the boost this spring, I want to add some extra engine protection with an oil cooer, and I figure while I'm at it, I'd like to relocate the oil filter to higher up inside the engine bay 1)to make it easier to change the filter, 2) to avoid 'act of god' incidents and have something smash up through my skid plate and kill the oil filter.

Parts:
Greddy oil relocation plate with thermostat

Where I need help is mounting the damned thing....I think know where/how I can mount the relocation sandwich plate, but mounting the oil cooler is escaping me.

I can't seem to find a bracket for any of them, unless I buy it in a full kit, which is always super fawking expensive.

LIke this:

I DO like this one: (but I think for rally, it'd be better to NOT have the oil cooler go that low....so I need something to mount it to the top)

Thoughts on mounting?

If you can build pin stands I'm sure you could fab up a bracket

Just make sure you run the hoses somewhere rally resistant too...not sure how low the hoses in that harmonmotive pic would last on stage

Any additional help would require a pic of the oil cooler held up in front of the radiator to better guage size

that eGay oil cooler is friggin huge.....

That being said you can easily fab up some angle stock to work a mount like comes in the kits. Find the installation instructions for a Mocal or process west unit on google and follow that to do your setup. I have a process west on my street car, it's about 2/3 the size of the ebay one you show and my the temp gage in my car never moves, even during 112 degree trackdays at streets of willow in August.

Are you going to remove the OEM water to oil heat exchanger? doing that will also allow you to run a smaller oil cooler, and also puts less stress on your radiator since the heat from the HOT oil is not going into the coolant quite as much.

couple questions for you:

1)where's the oem water to oil heat exchanger? I didn't even know we had one...

2)your temp gauge is for coolant temps right? not oil? I want to get a oil pressure/temp gauge as well.

its more of 'additional insurance'....the last few rallies I've found myself running a lot at redline in 2nd and 3rd gear, which means my turbo was probably glowing....so I want to make sure the oil has even less chance of visco breakdown/etc.

the oem water/oil exchanger is where the stock oil filter screws on. That's why there are rubber hoses there, to carry coolant around. There's a fairly current thread on Nasioc motorsports forum about this and the $5 part required to do it. I plan to do it in the future for the trackday/daily driver.

Yes, the temps I am talking about are coolant, which are directly related to oil temps also because the oil does about 1/3 of the cooling in the EJ engines. I noticed a big difference in engine temp consistency when I put the external cooler on.

It's definitely good insurance but don't think the cooler needs to be huge. The kit sized ones are probably bigger than they need to be already. If mounting is an issue try looking for a smaller one.
