So I've been having this problem for quite some time where when I shift from 1st to 2nd my transmission grinds but only when the car is heated up....when the car is cold it drives perfect...can anyone help me figure this out??? Thanks

My first thought is to change the gear oil, but, seeing as I have a thread going for gear oil problems, I could be way off base here :lol2:. However, gear oil is cheap and it couldn't hurt to go ahead and change it and see what that does.

Yes. First thing to do it change the gear oil. If that doesn't fix it you may have a syncro going out.

ive already changed my gear oil a couple times and i still doe it....i didnt think it would be the syncros because it only does it when its fully heated up and not when the car is cold

The only thing it may be aside from a syncro is some materiel inside the gearbox and once the Oil is "looser" it may cause to free up causing rubbing/blockage yada yada. But that would probably be a syncro anyhow me thinks.

The symptoms say the synchro isn't working properly once the gear oil is heated up. That means the gear oil viscosity is too low (too thin & watery) when up to temp for the synchro to work properly. Try a gear oil with a heavier weight when hot. Typically synthetic gear oils can cause this because they are "too slippery" which is great for keeping the teeth well lubed but not great for synchro operation which relies on friction.
What gear oils have you tried using?
