Model: 2007 Impreza (Base Model)
Body Style: 4 Door Sedan
Color: Newport Blue Pearl
Transmission: Automatic
Exterior: Sleek, but a little soft without a hood scoop. I have to admit I like the ‘hawk eye’ lights, and the grille is distinctive. The Newport Blue looks like WRB’s illegitimate love child with Volvo’s paint department, but it’s really not an unattractive color. I wish it'd had a wing, though. I like wings.
Interior: Not bad, but a little cramped. It was just me and my 90lb mother in the car, and it felt... cozy. Getting my dad into it, especially into the back seat, would not be easy. I liked how it looked, how it felt- like I could reach everything I needed, but still had enough room to get some left foot action or slam the e-brake. But as my non-performance mother put it, she felt ‘very safe’
Driving: I got to experience this as both a driver and a passenger, as I test drove this to try and convince my mother to buy it. It’s a GD Impreza in the traditional sense- it feels like it wants you to drive it, and it wants you to drive it fast. I guess I’m used to trying to make my Outback an STI (I drive it pretty hard), because every time I touched the gas pedal in this car it jumped. Once I softened my touch, though, it was a fun little car to drive around. Handling was good- nice and stiff, as one expects from an Impreza, but not hard for a lightweight like me to throw around. It’s not a very powerful car, but it’s pretty zippy as new cars go. And it's got that Subaru rumble to it that just makes me want to rev. The car really made me want to learn to drive stick and go feel how nice the 07 WRX is!
Overview: A base model, so it obviously doesn't have the oomph of a WRX. But from the base comes the potential of the higher-model cars! Zippy and tight on the road, it's a car I'd feel safe putting my mother in and would be more than happy to inherit when she's done with it ;)
GDP (Gettin’ Dirty Potential): Plenty. I'd RallyX that!
