OK! A little backstory. I am in Japan, should be back in the US in early 2011. I had a ver6 STi RA, so i know what good diffs feel like :) (suretrack front, DCCD, 2-way R180 rear).
When i get back, i will have a 2002/3 WRX. Shopping now.
I am pretty decided on what i want to do for the rear LSD (get a used R160 2-way here... either STi or Cusco/KAAZ), and i will take my time doing anything about the front.

The center diff is what i am not sure about. I've read a ton about the STi 12kg and 20kg viscous units, and also the Cusco Tarmac Gear. The Tarmac Gear sounds like a big pile of fun, as it would be pretty similar to DCCD in "open" mode. Good for tarmac fun, and fun on dirt, but not necessarily good or fast on dirt.
The STi 12/20 units are supposed to be awesome for rally...
Problem is, where do i buy one? I have been looking for used ones for a while, and never seem to find any at all.

Who can i go to for pricing on these? Can any of our vendors here supply them?

Also, i am down for ANY other suggestions/info on center diffs, besides FR conversions haha.

Oh man, there is another BIG thread about center diff's somewhere around here. I am sure if you do some searching you will find it.

ok i found this, which has some good info.

Sounds like the 20kg is pretty much the only heavy duty choice for a modern 5mt, and it acts pretty much like DCCD in "lock" mode did.

The 20 kg center is a very good choice, you should do it trust me on that one Next best is trans swap with dccd.

i hate how expensive 6mt's have gotten.

I have a DCCD 4.44 STi RA ver6 complete drivetrain that has been sitting at my house for about a year now. The guy i sold it to after pulling my car apart just doesn't seem to want it anymore, but he doesn't seem to worried about the fact that he already paid me too.
